Hay field day

The N.C. Cooperative Extension and Murphy-Brown will conduct a hay field day Friday from 9 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. at a farm on Veach's Mill Road northwest of Kenansville off Bowden Road.

Farmers are learning to manage, cut, cure and bale hay, and it is becoming an integral part of swine management in Eastern North Carolina, says Star Jackson at the Duplin Extension office. Most livestock and hay producers are continuously learning to do a better job of managing hay so they can do a better job of using the nitrogen from swine, poultry and commercial fertilizer sources, she said.

The field day will involve outside presentations and hay, irrigation and feed equipment demonstrations.

Participants who stay for the day's events will receive six hours of continuing education credits for certified operators of liquid animal waste management systems. A sponsored lunch will be provided.

For information, call Ms. Jackson at 910-296-2143 or 910-289-7625.
