Council sets out procedure to name Goodman replacement

A replacement for former Goldsboro Councilman William Goodman should be named by mid-July, according to a plan adopted Monday night by the City Council.
Goodman, the District 3 representative for 17 years, resigned last week after pleading guilty to a charge of obtaining property by false pretenses.
The council decided that an advertisement for the position, along with a map of the district, will be placed in the News-Argus by Friday.
District 3 cuts a narrow swath through central Goldsboro from Harris Street to the south to the northern city limit on William Street.
The city will accept resumes to fill the vacancy until 5 p.m. on July 9.
All resumes and statements will be mailed to Mayor Al King. The mayor, along with Councilmen Charles Williams and Chuck Allen will serve as a screening committee, which will meet on July 12 to select three candidates for the entire council to interview.
The city attorney will compile a sample list of questions the City Council may wish to consider when interviewing the three candidates.
To be eligible for the vacancy the applicant must have lived in North Carolina for one year and in District 3 for at least 30 days; be a qualified voter in Goldsboro; be at least 18 years old, and cannot be a felon.
The council expects to name the new person by the July 19 council meeting.
