July meeting canceled

The school board decided Monday night to cancel its July meeting because of scheduling conflicts. It also approved changes to several schools' start and dismissal times for the fall.

The July meeting, which would have been held on July 5, was canceled due to the Independence Day holiday. When attempts made to reschedule were unsuccessful, the board voted to eliminate the meeting entirely unless pressing business comes up.

The board also accepted proposed opening and closing times for several schools. For the most part, the times remain the same across the county.

Dr. Craig McFadden, assistant superintendent for accountability, said the most noticeable changes will be in the central Goldsboro schools, which had been previously requested by the school board.

The time changes between Goldsboro High School and the two middle schools will be switched, he said. Instead of operating from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Goldsboro High will be in session from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Dillard and Goldsboro middle schools, previously in session from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., will change to 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Brogden Primary School students will also have to adjust to an earlier start time in the fall. The school's hours have been from 8:25 a.m. until 2:55 p.m. but will be changed to 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Center Street Jam is Thursday

The Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation's Center Jam will feature Liquid Pleasure on Thursday, sponsored by Billie's Restaurant.

There will be food by Pizza Inn and Ashley's Hot Dogs. Barbecue will be cooked by the downtown Elk's Lodge on Chestnut Street, and the Center Street Jam sponsor, Billie's Restaurant, will be serving ribs.

Coca Cola is one of the DGDC annual sponsors and donates all proceeds to the local Boys and Girls Club.

The Johnny Dollar Band will appear on June 24.

The Jam is held at the Waynesborough House parking lot on South Center St. in downtown Goldsboro from 5:30 - 8 p.m.

Interruption of water service

Water service for residents of the 200 block of S. William Street will be interrupted Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon. On Friday the service will be interrupted for residents of Denmark Street, and the 200, 300, 400 & 500 block of E. Spruce Street from 8 a.m. until noon.

The interruption gives city workers an opportunity to install water valves.

Bloodmobile

The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold a Bloodmobile Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at O'Berry Center. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
