Two drivers have been killed in one-vehicle wrecks in Wayne County, according to Highway Patrol reports.

One victim was identified as 23-year-old Sheriese Shantel Walls of 207 Little Dove Road, Pikeville.

The second victim, believed to be an airman at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, has not been identified until his family can be contacted.

State Trooper B.W. Overton said Ms. Walls was driving east on Gurley Dairy Road, just east of Williams Road, at about 6:15 a.m. Sunday. The trooper said her car ran off the right side of he road for 115 feet, came back on the road and crossed the center line.

Ms. Walls then "overcorrected the steering to the right," Overton said, and the car ran off the right side sideways, went 107 feet across a yard and collided with a tree.

She was driving a 1996 Ford, registered to Omar Jamel Bishop of Leslie Street in Goldsboro. The car, valued at $3,000, was demolished.

The airman was killed at about 1 a.m. today on N.C. 111 North. The investigating trooper, Robert Thaxton, had not completed his report at mid-morning.

The two fatalities bring the death toll in 2004 on Wayne County roads to 15.
