ALBERTSON -- July 24 is the rain date set for the June 26 Jamboree and Stewfest.
The event will be held on the grounds of the Peary Davis home at the intersection of N.C. Highways 903 and 111 in Albertson. It will be the future Northeast Duplin Communities Library.
Organizers hope the event will help them raise $160,000 for the building, renovations and books.
Four-man cooking teams can sign up for the Stewfest by calling 252-568-1292 or 252-568-3659. Cooking can begin as early as 8 a.m., but check-in is at 8:30 a.m. The cookers must be on site by 9 a.m. Five judges will chose recipients of the awards, which will be given based on cleanliness, product quality and showmanship. Judging will take place between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Lunch at noon will include the stews, tacos and hot dogs. A $1 ticket buys a sample of each stew. The Jamboree will continue until 3 p.m.
