FAISON -- The Faison town board decided Wednesday night to draft a letter to thank William Thornton for donating a building for a town library and museum.

Thornton, the owner of the building at 211 W. Main St., also donated $52,000 to help get the building ready for the William Thornton Library and Museum.

First, the title to the building goes to the Faison Improvement Group to oversee its restoration. When the restoration is finished, the group plans to turn over the title to the town.

The town board agreed to operate the library under the Duplin County library system, which calls for the town to be responsible for maintaining the building and paying water, sewer and insurance costs. The county would continue to furnish the librarian, books and equipment.

The train depot, which houses the current library and museum, will be used for community activities.
