Severe weather risk

There was a risk of strong to severe thunderstorms in the eastern half of North Carolina this afternoon. The biggest risk was between noon and 2 p.m.
There was also an isolated chance of a tornado.
A cold front moving toward the east was expected to meet up with warm, moist air while strong, upper level winds added to the instability.
The main risk from storms was straight-line winds reaching speeds as high as 65 mph. The line of storms, which extended from Alabama north to West Virginia, was moving to the northeast at 40-50 mph.
The weather risk here should end by 6 p.m. although showers are possible later, followed by clearing.
