Jeffrey Scott Wilkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Wilkins of Princeton, received a doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry during commencement exercises on Sunday, May 23, at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Wilkins is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Wilkins of Princeton. He and his wife, the former Renee Taylor of Mount Olive, live in Raleigh
Wilkins is a 1990 graduate of Rosewood High School. He attended Wayne Community College and East Carolina University.
Melissa S. Longwith completed the doctor of pharmacy program at Campbell University and graduated with honors on Sunday, May 9. She is the daughter of Jane Longwith and the late Buford Longwith and is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School.
Miss Longwith has accepted a position as pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy on Wayne Memorial Drive.
A graduate of Southern Wayne High School, she is the daughter of Jane Longwith and the late Buford Longwith and the stepdaughter of Harold Clay.
Jennifer Williamson, Charles B. Aycock High School's 2004 valedictorian, has received a Duke University Scholarship Award Package worth $151,720 over four years.
She also received a $200 award from the Charles B. Aycock High School Boosters, $500 from Tri-County EMC and a $500 C.W. Twiford Rotary award to be used for her college expenses.
Miss Williamson accepted the Duke University package over the N.C. Teaching Fellows Program worth $26,000, as well as a $51,200 Campbell University Scholarship Award Package; a $35,000 N.C. State Mattocks Scholarship; a UNC-Chapel Hill Merit Scholarship worth $4,000; a UNC-Chapel Hill James M. Johnston School award for $29,040; a $14,000 Western Carolina University Meritorious Award; and an Appalachian State University Grants worth $3,225.
She is the daughter of Clayton and Faye Williamson of Fremont.
Ashley Lauren Chase of Pikeville, a transfer student from Wayne Community College, is the recipient of a Transfer Incentive Award at Barton College. The renewable scholarship will cover $1,000 of tuition for the year.
Miss Chase is the daughter of Robbie and Pam Chase. She will enter Barton College this fall and plans to major in English.
Constance Birden, a senior at Goldsboro High School, has been accepted into the NASA/TISSE (Training Incoming Students to become Scientists and Engineers) 2004 Program to be held on the campus of Carolina Central University on July 4-31.
The four-week residential program was designed to give incoming freshmen a head start in math and science courses.
Program participants receive a $600 stipend and a laptop computer.
TISSE is funded by a grant from NASA Curriculum Improvement Partnership Award Program in partnership with the United Negro College Fund.
Mss Birden is the daughter of Michael and Nellie Birden of Goldsboro.
