Leadership Wayne County class graduates

A new class of Wayne County leaders graduated Tuesday from a nine-month program and now say they are ready to use what they learned to help the community grow.
"Our time here and what we do with it is a gift," said Amy Cain, director of public relations at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She addressed the 2004 Leadership Wayne County class during its graduation ceremony at Billie's Restaurant in Goldsboro. She is a 1998 graduate of the class.
Leadership Wayne County is co-sponsored by the Wayne Charitable Partnership and the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
The program is designed to assist present and future community leaders in their efforts to prepare for leadership positions in local businesses, organizations and the community.
The program includes tours of industries, schools, colleges, historical sites, agricultural businesses, health care organizations, city, county and state facilities and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Participants also choose and implement a class project to benefit the community.
This year's class chose as its project the beautification of the Boys & Girls Club. In addition to the landscaping, the class presented Mary Ann Dudley, director of the Boys & Girls Club, with a $100 donation.
This donation will go toward the Annual Giving Campaign.
The class toured Seymour Johnson, Carolina Turkeys, Goldsboro Milling, Hilex Poly and other businesses. It also had guest speakers from The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross and United Way. The program begins and ends with a retreat.
