Crime Stoppers helps in clearing 17 cases

Seventeen cases, including a murder, were cleared with arrests in April by authorities after anonymous calls to Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers.
The murder was cleared with the arrest of Marcus Dominique Moore, 24, of Denmark Street. He was charged with the April 16 shooting of Jonathan Deon Yarborough, 31, of Beal Street.
Goldsboro police said the shooting followed a predawn argument between the convicted drug dealers. A neighbor heard the shots and called 911. Police found the victim outside of Moore's home. Moore was arrested the next day.
Sgt. Ed Clay, the retiring police coordinator for Crime Stoppers, told the agency's monthly board meeting that three fugitives were apprehended, and four drug cases, a break-in and two fraud cases also were cleared with arrests in April.
An anonymous caller told authorities that a home on Hugh Street had surveillance cameras, bolted doors and armed people because they were conducting illegal drug and liquor sales.
The Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad obtained a search warrant and raided the home April 7. David Lamont Stokes, 35, of Country View Lane was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling drugs and possession of non-taxpaid liquor. Andre Lavarr Coley, 31, of Central Heights Road was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of non-taxpaid liquor.
A man with several Social Security cards was arrested March 18 by Mount Olive police after a confidential call and charged with financial identity fraud. The man had stolen the cards in Texas and had been using the false identities to obtain loans, credit cards and other services.
When police went to the suspect's home, they said Ludevia Lopez Herrera, 18, of Lewis Drive, Mount Olive, later confessed to the crimes.
A fugitive was arrested April 6 by Wayne County sheriff's deputies at his job site in Dudley after a confidential tip. Carl Lee Blackman, 30, of East Elm Street was wanted by authorities in Escambia County in Florida on charges of first-degree burglary, a sexual assault, an assault on a handicapped person and an assault on a law-enforcement officer. Blackman was extradited to Florida to stand trial.
Since the inception of Crime Stoppers in 1982, Executive Director Bill Troutman said anonymous calls have helped officers solve 6,394 cases, make 5,250 arrests, seize more than $7 million in illegal drugs and recover more than $2 in stolen property.
Anyone with information on any crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
