Car theft
A man who left the keys in his car late Thursday night while he was at a Goldsboro night club got good news today.
The car was recovered, and the driver was arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with auto larceny and other offenses.
The car's owner, Cesar Villa, 27, of Pikeville, told police that had parked the 1985 Volkswagen at about 11 p.m. at Sid's Showgirls at 1927 N. William St. When he went outside at about 2:30 a.m., the car was gone.
In the meantime, the car had been stopped at the Slocumb Street gate to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Officer Claude Jackson charged the driver, Major Antwon Hinton, 19, of Raleigh, with suspicion of driving while impaired, driving after drinking under age, reckless driving, no operator's license, assault with a deadly weapon and a probation violation from Wake County.
Later, police discovered that the car had been reported stolen. After Hinton was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,200 secured bond on the traffic charges, Officer Michael Sweet charged Hinton with felony larceny of a vehicle. He received an additional $5,000 secured bond.
Moped driver hurt
One person were injured and damages were estimated at $6,900 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A man on a moped was struck by a car and injured at 5:49 p.m. Thursday at Olivia Lane and Slaughter Street, Goldsboro police said. Lesean Levell Dingle, 24, of South Andrews Street was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other motorist, Brandy R. Williams of Brentwood Drive, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said Ms. Williams had started a left turn and the pickup that she was driving collided with Dingle's oncoming, westbound moped. Damage was set at $400 to the moped; the truck was not damaged.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:05 p.m. Saturday at Sleepy Creek and Emmaus Church roads, the Highway Patrol. An eastbound driver, Fabian Louis Mireles, 17, of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, was charged with a yield violation. Troopers said Mireles was making a right turn and the sport utility vehicle that he was driving collided with a southbound van operated by Segunda Martin, 45, of Norwood Ezzell Road, Mount Olive.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment and a DVD player were stolen Thursday after a window was smashed at a home in the 1100 block of Porter Street, police said. The resident, Nancia Barrett, estimated the value of the stolen property at $520 and damage at $200.
*A blue and silver 1988 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was stolen between Thursday and dawn today from the 100 block of Grand Street near Pikeville, sheriff's deputies said. The resident and owner, Jerry Ronald Burke, put a $2,500 value on it.
*A white, four-door 2000 Chevrolet Lumina was stolen Thursday from an apartment parking lot in the 1000 block of Harris Street, police said. The owner, William B. Bowden Sr., said the car was worth $6,500.
