New city assistant
A familiar face is back at City Hall. Former Goldsboro resident Tasha Logan has returned to take the position of assistant to the city manager.
Ms. Logan worked as an intern for the city during three summers while attending college. She received her master's degree in public administration from N.C. State and worked for a self-help organization in Durham before taking the position in Goldsboro.
Dillard homecoming
Entry forms are now being accepted for participation in the Dillard-Goldsboro Alumni Homecoming parade that will be held on May 29 at 10 a.m.
The deadline for entries is extended to Monday. Entries submitted after the deadline will be assessed a $10 charge.
The assembly and lineup will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Dillard Middle School on Devereaux Street, next to the gymnasium. Forms may be picked up from and returned to the Alumni Cultural Center on Poplar Street.
This year's route is the same as last year's: Public Drive to Slocumb Street, north to Elm Street, east to Poplar Street, south to Olivia Lane, west to Devereaux Street, south to Public Drive, and then west back to the assembly area.

Jones to speak at GTP
U.S. Rep. Walter Jones will deliver the keynote address at a State of the Region Symposium called "North Carolina's Eastern Region: Meeting the Demands of the Changing Economy."
The symposium will begin with a registration at 9 a.m. It will last until 2 p.m. and various officials will discuss topics including business recruitment, education and economic development. Jones will discuss the economic future of military bases and civilian jobs.
The event will be at the N.C. Global TransPark's Education and Training Center at 3802 N.C. Highway 58 N. in Kinston. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact L. Hester at 1-919-882-1979 or e-mail lhester@capstrat.com.
String musicians wanted
A string chamber group is being formed for adult musicians. Practices will be on Sunday nights.
Heading up the effort are Chris Ellis, a violin instructor who teaches at the Arts Council of Wayne County, and Lou Gagliano. Gagliano is one of Ellis' students, as well as a member of the Mount Olive Community Instrumental Ensemble and the Wilson Orchestra. More information can be obtained by calling Gagliano at 734-8604.
