City officials appointed
Goldsboro Mayor Al King and City Manager Richard Slozak were selected to serve on the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee for the state League of Municipalities.
As members of the committee, King and Slozak will help establish municipal policy and legislative goals.
The committee studies issues in the areas of water and sewage, environmental protection, trash disposal, stormwater management and watershed protection.
Councilman Chuck Allen was appointed to the league's Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. The finance committee studies issues of revenues, taxation, personnel, retirement, elections and general government.
New shelter planned
The Wayne County commissioners agreed to waive landfill fees for the Salvation Army, which plans to tear down a house at 609 Daisy St. The location is intended to be the site of a new family shelter.
The fees would have been less than $500, County Manager Lee Smith said. The Salvation Army provides many programs that assist county residents, he added.
Goldsboro city employees reportedly will demolish the house, also at no cost to the Salvation Army.
Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Goldsboro Chevrolet Cadillac. Donors will receive a Texas Steakhouse coupon.
