Drive-by shooting
A Goldsboro teen-ager in a car at Wayne Memorial Drive and Royall Avenue was wounded Tuesday during a drive-by shooting, a Goldsboro police report said.
Perez Donovon McDuffie, 17, of Fourth Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition.
McDuffie told police that a silver car pulled alongside the car he was in and someone fired a shot. The shot hit the car and then struck McDuffie in the arm and face.
Damage was estimated at $500 to the car, driven by Maurice Lewis, 17, of Hart Circle.
The gunman was described as black, about 18 years old, 5-feet-11 and 150 pounds with black hair in long braids and brown eyes.
Robbery during Relay
A teen-ager was charged Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with robbing another teen of $60 in the greenhouse at Eastern Wayne High School while the Relay for Life was going on.
Wooten
Donovon Wooten was charged with armed robbery and placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 secured bond.
Wooten and another person were accused of beating Jesse D. Parrish, 17, on Saturday and stealing the money, Detective Robert Chunn said. A second person has not been charged with the crime. Detective Sgt. Tony Morris assisted in the investigation.
Parrish had told deputies that two people entered the greenhouse at about 11:40 a.m. and struck him with a broom handle. Parrish drew a knife, but the suspect took it from him. When Parrish reached for the knife, his left hand was sliced. The suspects then fled with the cash. Parrish was treated for his injuries and then released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Break-in
Four people were arrested Tuesday by Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with stealing about $3,500 worth of property from a home on Mills Road.
Joe Rutter Bradley Jr., 17, and Jennifer Leigh Alonzo, 17, both of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive; John Morgan Parker, 19, of North Beston Road, LaGrange, and Christopher Allen Gautier, 29, of Outlaw Bridge Road, Albertson, were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Bradley, Parker and Gautier were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $15,000 secured bonds. Ms. Alonzo was jailed in lieu of a $4,500 secured bond.
The four were accused of stealing firearms, DVD movies, compact discs and cash on May 2, Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden said. Some property has been recovered. Two other detectives, Sgt. Tony Morris and Mike Reid, assisted.
Statutory rape
An investigation of a break-in led to the arrest of a 29-year-old Duplin County man on five felony charges, including two sex offenses.
Christopher Allen Gautier of Outlaw Bridge Road, Albertson, was charged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office with breaking and entering, larceny, possession of stolen goods, a statutory sex offense with a child and a statutory rape of a child.
Gautier was brought from the Duplin County Jail in Kenansville, where he was being held on unrelated charges, to be served with the warrants. A Wayne County magistrate set Gautier's secured bond at $200,000.
Wayne sheriff's detectives had received a report of a residential break-in at Grantham. After investigating, Sgts. Ray Brogden and Tammy Odom said they found evidence that Gautier also was involved in an assault on a 14-year-old girl.
Motorcycles stolen
A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with four felony offenses in connection with the theft of three motorcycles.
Bobby Ray Dudley of U.S. 13 South was charged with one count each of breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods and two counts of larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said the motorcycles, valued at $6,800, were stolen April 18 and then were recovered and returned to the owner.
Ambulance struck
A car collided with an ambulance before dawn today, and the driver fled from the collision but was charged later, Goldsboro police said.
The collision occurred at 12:54 a.m. at Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway and Oak Forest Road.
Neither the ambulance driver, Cynthia Carol Beacham, 56, of Beaufort, nor her passenger, Patricia Jarman, 35, of Jacksonville, was injured.
The driver, Glenda Kennon Washington, 40, of Luther Drive, was charged with hit and run, driving while impaired, a yield violation, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Ms. Washington was going south on Oak Forest Road and failed to yield at the flashing red light. The car she was driving collided with the eastbound Carteret General Hospital vehicle, police said. Damage was estimated at $5,000 to each vehicle.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A pair of binoculars was stolen Tuesday and the home ransacked after a door was damaged in the 1900 block of Antioch Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, C. Keith Gooding, put a $50 value on the binoculars and set damage at $100.
*A mortar mixer was stolen from a work site on N.C. 222, east of N.C. 581, deputies said. The owner, Jameria Solomon of KInston, said the mixer was worth $1,700.
*About $20 in coins was stolen Tuesday after a window was smashed at an apartment in the 400 block of North Carolina Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, P.N. Champion, estimated the damage at $80.
Firearm theft
A Dudley man faces more problems after Goldsboro police charged him Tuesday with felony larceny of a firearm and misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun.
Ivan Devon Harvey, 19, of Birddog Lane already was in the Wayne County Jail on unrelated charges.
His secured bond on Tuesday's offenses was set at $6,000. Harvey was accused of stealing the weapon May 11, Investigator M.K. Horstmann said. Investigator Neal Lynch assisted in the case.
Marijuana charge
An 18-year-old Goldsboro man was charged Tuesday night by Goldsboro police at Olivia Lane and South Audubon Avenue with a felony drug offense.
Jamarius R. Artis of Beal Street was charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Missing
A 13-year-old Eastern Wayne Middle School student was reported missing Tuesday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Stacey Lamar Edwards of 1045 LaGrange Road was described as black, 6-feet and 160 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. When Stacey was seen last, he was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and red and blue shoes. Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
