Seven arrested
on drug charges
Seven people -- including two after a drive-by shooting in Goldsboro -- were arrested over the weekend by authorities and charged with drug violations.
Two men were arrested Sunday by Goldsboro police after police investigated a shots-fired call in Lincoln Homes.
A witness, Antron D. Hines, 19, of Goldsboro told police that he was on a friend's porch at 12:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Lincoln Drive and saw the suspects' car approach slowly. Then, Hines said, he heard gunshots and ran inside. The vehicle fled north.
Jamil Jones, 24, of Courtyard Circle and Anthony Gerald, 36, who did not disclose a home address, were arrested on House Street. They were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine. They also were charged with possession of a concealed weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
Jones also was charged with felony possession of firearms, an assault rifle and a handgun, by a convicted felon.
The firearms, 12 grams of cocaine and $1,015 were seized, Sgt. K.R. Edwards said.
Jones was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond. Gerald was jailed in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
B-shift police officers, meanwhile, executed a search warrant Saturday at the Wayne Motel at 801 W. Grantham St. and arrested William Tavarus Faison, 23, of Level Street. He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. About 15 to 20 rocks of crack cocaine were seized, Edwards said.
Faison was jailed in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.
Two men were arrested Saturday night by police at Courtyard Circle and South Slocumb Street and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver 19 grams of marijuana.
Donald Kenyoka Holmes, 23 of Miller Avenue also was charged with not having an operator's license. He was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Demarco Lamont Garner, 21, of Jake Drive, Dudley, also was charged with second-degree trespass. He also was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Two Davis Mill Road residents were arrested over the weekend by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Walter Ray Griffin, 52, and Debra Lyn Bates, 43, were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $1,000 secured bonds.
Fremont Police Officer D.A. McFatter had gone to the home in response to a call about a domestic dispute and saw a marijuana plant in a flower garden. When Sheriff's Sgt. Sherwood Daly and Deputy Randy Thompson and his dog, Linda, arrived, they found six more plants in nearby woods. The plants had an estimated street value of $16,800 at maturity.
Robbery charge
A 19-year-old Dudley man was arrested Saturday night by Goldsboro police and charged with armed robbery and other offenses.
Ivan Devon Harvey Jr. of Birddog Lane also was charged with larceny and he was held on six outstanding arrest orders. Harvey was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $106,500 secured bond.
Harvey was accused of the robbery on March 28.
Teen robbed
A student selling plants Saturday at the Eastern Wayne High School greenhouse was assaulted and robbed of $60, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said.
Jessie Douglas Parrish, 17, of Goldsboro told deputies that two men entered the greenhouse at about 11:40 a.m. and struck him with a broom handle. Parrish drew a knife, but it was taken from him, deputies said. When Parrish reached for the knife, his left hand was sliced, deputies said. The suspects then fled with the cash.
One suspect was described only as wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. Both were black.
Parrish was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Restaurant break-in
PIKEVILLE -- An estimated $2,465 worth of property was stolen Saturday or Sunday from Buck's Restaurant on U.S. 117 in Pikeville, a Wayne County sheriff's deputy said.
The owner, Aref Allan Alawar, reported the theft of two microwave ovens, a cash register, a steamer, a television, a toaster and about $30 between 4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. No sign of forced entry was reported.
Collisions
Damages were estimated at $56,300 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-truck wreck at 6:15 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 13 near Loop Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Vicente Jorge Garcia, 27, of Ginger Lane, Newton Grove, was charged with driving while impaired and driving left of center. His truck ran off the left side, struck a driveway and overturned into a ditch.
*Damage was put at $6,500 in a one-car wreck at 10:15 p.m. Saturday on Tommy's Road near U.S. 117, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Diana Manuela Neira Bonilla, 36, of True Vine Road, Pikeville, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car ran off the right side, struck several trees and overturned. She told troopers that she had swerved to avoid an animal in the road.
*Damages were estimated at $5,800 in a three-vehicle collision at 10:27 a.m. Friday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway near North Berkeley Boulevard, Goldsboro police said. Police said one driver, James Leftdwrige, 70, of Selma, slowed to allow traffic to merge from an entrance ramp. A man driving a tractor-trailer, Robert Harold Simpson, 57, of Lakeland, Fla., swerved to the left to avoid Leftdwrige's pickup but collided with its tailgate and a second tractor-trailer in the left lane. The other trucker was identified as Jimmie Bruce Hall, 47, of Newton Grove. No charges were filed.
*Damages were set at $10,000 in a two-truck crash at 6 p.m. Friday at North William Street and Hooks River Road, police said. One driver, Issac Leonard Aldridge III, 50, of Herman Lane Road, Stantonsburg, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said Aldridge had started a left turn and his pickup collided with an oncoming, southbound pickup driven by George Anthony Marlowe, 34, of North Vance Street, Fremont.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 1:55 p.m. Thursday on Wayne Memorial Drive, the Highway Patrol said. The SUV ran off the right side, struck a driveway culvert and overturned, hitting a telephone box and a cable box. No charges were filed. The driver, Odell Everett Brown, 46, of Stantonsburg, declined hospital treatment. The SUV was valued at $15,000.
*A motorist was charged with driving while impaired and a stop-sign violation after a one-car wreck at 8:35 p.m. Thursday on Daw Pate Road near Stoney Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Suzanna Marie Stewart, 23, of Leavie Drive, Pikeville, was not injured after her southbound auto ran through the T-intersection, struck a utility building, veered to the right, struck a carport, continued several hundred feet and struck a chicken house and a fence. The car, valued at $5,000, was demolished. Damage was estimated at $5,000 to the utility building, owned by Brenda Jackson, and $4,000 to the shelter and chicken house, owned by Ray Gurganus.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*New clothing, video-game equipment, a cell phone, a compact disc player, a telephone, two watches, a radio set and alcohol were stolen between Friday and Sunday after a door was forced open at a home in the 100 block of Mill Creek Court, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, George Ernest Walker, put a $2,195 value on his property.
*A Kirby vacuum cleaner, a video cassette recorder and 20 video tapes were stolen between May 8 and Sunday after a shed lock had been pried open in the 100 block of Crescent Drive, deputies said. The owner, Carolyn J. Baines, said the property was worth $2,170.
*A white, two-door Chevrolet Lumina was stolen Sunday from the 100 block of Weldon Court, deputies said. The driver of the rental car, Kimyetta M. Burt, said the keys had been stolen. The car, owned by Lee's Motor Rentals of Mount Olive, was valued at $5,000.
*About $2,000 worth of tools and a tool box were stolen between May 7 and Friday from the owner's porch in the 2700 block of Big Daddy's Road, deputies said. The owner, Daniel Albert Lancaster, said the tool box was worth $150.
*A plasma cutter and a radio were stolen between Thursday and Friday from behind the owner's home in the 1400 block of Antioch Road, deputies said. The resident, Irving Rocky Gay, put a $1,650 value on the property.
*Gunshots caused about $500 in damages to a home in the 1400 block of Emmaus Church Road, deputies said. The resident, Larry Dean Durham, said the damage occurred between Friday night and early Saturday. Two walls and molding were damaged.
