The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is keeping up with the digital age by developing a technologically advanced way of marketing. It hopes the disc will be a link to better business.

The plans are to unveil a digital card soon. The card is similar to a small compact disc that can be placed in a computer. It provides information about the chamber and a link to the chamber's site, www.waynecountychamber.com.

The information on the card is based on a brochure that was developed over the past year by a chamber marketing committee.

It has the chamber's mission statement, which is "to advance the general welfare and prosperity of Wayne County so that its citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper."

There will be someone on the screen explaining what the chamber has to offer businesses, such as free advertising and referrals, networking opportunities, seminars, workshops and enrichment programs, marketing and publicity opportunities, discounts on products and services and access to information about Wayne County.

It will also provide answers to frequently asked questions about the chamber.

Patty Graham, director of membership and marketing, said there will also be a couple of members giving testimonials about how the chamber has helped their businesses.

Mrs. Graham said the chamber is keeping with the theme of "There's No Place Like Home." She hopes that the card will encourage more businesses to relocate to the county and encourage those that are here to do more business with others here.

"We cannot bring the economic development up in the area unless we think like that," she said.

The cards are being produced by Jay Memmelaar with JMAC Multimedia in Goldsboro. He will produce them as needed, and Mrs. Graham said they may just distribute a few at the beginning and then provide them to all chamber members.

She hopes having the information easily accessible on the card will encourage more businesses to join the chamber.
