Historical Assocation develops fund-raising plan

The Wayne County Historical Association is developing more fund-raising tactics to help pay for planned electrical work in the Wayne County Museum.
Nancy Delia, association president, said some of the wiring in the museum dates back to the mid-1920s.
She said the wiring is not adequate to support the items, like TVs and sound systems, that the museum uses and there are not enough outlets available. Some of the outlets are not working and they do not fit three-pronged plugs. The safety of the building is at risk also, she said.
When a new elevator was installed at the museum, the inspector recommended that the rest of the building be rewired.
The association formed a three-member committee to work on soliciting bids from electrical contractors. Steve Bryan, committee member, said the committee is planning to have the city electrical inspector find out what needs to be done. He has called three contractors in Goldsboro and has not had any success in getting someone to look at the wiring. He addressed the association's board during its meeting Tuesday.
Once written bids are received, they will be brought before the association for approval. It will then be able to move ahead with fund-raising. The association is putting together a list of potential donors, said Ms. Delia.
The board also discussed plans for its annual meeting, which will be open to all association members. The board is still searching for a speaker for the event, which is tentatively scheduled for June 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Billie's Backstreet Restaurant in Goldsboro. This date could change depending on the speaker. The board also decided not to have the Olde Goldsborough Holiday Tour this year and will work on putting it together for 2005.
