Races shaping up in Duplin County

KENANSVILLE -- State Sen. Charlie Albertson and two county commissioners face challengers in the July 20 Democratic primary.
Adrain Ray Arnett of Pink Hill filed Wednesday to seek the N.C. Senate District 10 seat held by Albertson. Albertson, who lives in Beulaville, filed on April 26.
Two county commissioners, L.S. Guy and Reginald Wells, are facing opposition in their bids for re-election.
Guy, who is the chairman of the county commissioners board, faces Snodie Wilson of Kenansville in the Democratic primary for District 1.
Quincy Hill of Rose Hill has filed to run on the Democratic ticket for the county commissioner seat held by Reginald Wells of Rose Hill, and they will square off in the Democratic primary in District 6.
Whoever wins the nomination will face Sean Knowles, a Republican from Rose Hill, in November.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Myrle Beringer has announced he will not run again in District 4. Two Democrats are going after his seat.
Tommy Herring has filed to run and so has David Fussell. Whoever wins will face Republican Ray Garriss, also of Wallace, in November. All three filers are from Wallace.
Board of Education member Hubert E. Bowden of Warsaw also filed Wednesday. He is seeking re-election on the Democratic ticket to the District 6 seat on the school board.
The filing period will continue until noon Friday.
