Drive-by shooting
A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with shooting at two men.
Antonio Demyrous Hodges of Hamilton Drive was accused of shooting at Terrance Monque Gooding, 29, of Hilda Place and Travis Levon James, 25, of West Mulberry Street on April 15, Investigator Chad Calloway said.
Hodges shot several times at the two men in Tanglewood Mobile Home Park on Central Heights Road and then drove off, police said.
Officer Thomas Bailey later found the car and chased it. He arrested Hodges, who was a passenger in the car, he said.
Hodges was charged by Calloway, Officer Gaston Lopez and an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an $80,000 secured bond.
Hodges also was being held on federal drug and weapon charges.
Unruly detainee
A Goldsboro man took exception to a police investigation of domestic problems Wednesday in his home and then allegedly assaulted the police officers.
Police were called to a home in the 1100 block of North George Street. Dorothy Moore, 52, told officers that she had argued with her son, Kelvin, 32, and he picked up a knife and tried to stab her.
Freddie Hobbs wrestled the knife away from Moore, and Mrs. Moore dialed 911, police said. As Mrs. Moore called, the son yanked the phone from the wall, police said, and threw pots and pans around the home.
When police Sgt. Ken Edwards and Officer Nelson Viera arrived, Kelvin Moore tried to punch Edwards, then kicked Viera, and as he was being handcuffed, he tried to kick Officer J.B. Clifford, they said. Moore also threatened the officers outside and then broke the passenger window in a patrol car, police said.
Moore was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, interference with emergency communications, injury to personal property, assault on a law-enforcement officer, communicating threats, injury to real property and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Moore also was served with two outstanding arrest orders by the Sheriff's Office. His secured bond on those charges was set at $800.
Burglary
A couple was arrested Tuesday by Wayne County sheriff's deputies today and accused of entering a home to steal property.
When the resident returned to her home in the 4500 block of U.S. 13 South, she saw the intruders walking outside and called 911. Deputy C.T. Arnold found the two people lying on the ground near the woods.
Christopher Leon Denning, 20, and Theresa Lou Roth Denning, 30, both of Selah Church Road, Four Oaks, gave conflicting stories. But later Christopher Denning admitted that they were looking for a computer and other items, officers said.
Each was charged with felony second-degree burglary and placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond. The resident, Alice Rose Long, told deputies that nothing had been stolen.
Car theft
Two men were arrested Wednesday night by Goldsboro police and charged with stealing a pickup truck.
Brandon Lee Nash, 21, of Kinston and Kent Herbert Croom, 23, of LaGrange were charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor possession of stolen property. Croom also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
Nash and Croom were arrested in the Pinewood Square parking lot on North Spence Avenue. Each was accused of stealing a 1979 Chevrolet.
Wife, husband collide
A woman backing from her driveway on Wednesday collided with her husband's car that was turning from the street, a Goldsboro police report said.
Mildred A. Talton, 32, of Kaydee Street told police that she started backing out and looked both ways. Jeffrey Scott Talton, 43, said that as he turned into their driveway, his wife was backing out, he blew the horn but she did not stop.
Mrs. Talton was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were estimated at a combined $1,200.
In other collisions:
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 at 5:53 p.m. Tuesday on Central Heights Road near Oak Forest Road, police said. Carolyn Whitfield, 42, of Faith Place was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Sean Michael Villanueva, 17, of Oak Forest Road was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A driver from LaGrange was injured at 11:30 a.m. Monday on New Hope Road near Miller's Chapel Road, the Highway Patrol said. Shereka Renee Davis, 19, of County Line Road was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car she was driving spun out of control off the left side of a wet road and struck a mail box. Damages were put at $1,900.
*A driver was injured at 4:42 p.m. Sunday at N.C. 581 and Buck Swamp Road, the Highway Patrol said. Michael Timothy Bowen, 19, of Autumn Winds Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other motorist was Kris Elaine Weatherman, 23, of N.C. 581 North, Fremont.
Condition listed as fair
Two passengers were ejected and a third also was injured in a one-car wreck at 1:56 a.m. Saturday on Princeton Road near Oakland Church Road, the Highway Patrol said.
The ejected passengers, Thomas Lester, 16, and Joshua Dukette, 13, both of Hanson Drive, Princeton, were not wearing seat belts, troopers said. Lester was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital, stabilized and airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he was listed Wednesday in fair condition, a spokeswoman said. Dukette was admitted, treated and released from Wayne Memorial.
The other passenger, Alan Hawkins, 18, of Dennis Drive, Princeton, was released after emergency-room treatment. Their driver, Derek Wesley Forsythe, 30, of East Evans Road, Princeton, was charged with reckless driving and suspicion of driving while impaired.
Their southbound car ran off the right side, struck a ditch and a small tree and overturned. The car, registered to Michaela Deane Forsythe of East Evans Road, was demolished. It was valued at $8,600.
Drug charges
A 31-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police on Dupont Circle and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug violations.
Quaivous Sharvaryle Crawford of North John Street was charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne Count Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Power tools and fishing equipment were stolen from an unlocked shed in the 800 block of Forest Hill Drive, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Charles Edward Spiron, put a $1,229 value on the tools and a $950 value on the fishing gear.
*A white, four-door 1997 Plymouth Neon with a 30-day tag was taken from the 100 block of Flamingo Drive near Dudley, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Michelle Warren, said the car was worth $3,000.
DWI
Hector Delgado, 38, of Mexico Lane, Faison, was charged today by the Highway Patrol with driving while impaired and an opened container violation. He registered .23 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $600 secured bond.
