Crime of the Week
An armed robbery of two men has been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crime of the Week."
The two victims were sitting in their car at 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of North James Street, where two men dressed in dark clothing forced them out of the car. Then the suspects bound the victims, forced them to the ground, searched them, took their money and fled.
Anyone with information on this armed robbery or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Man robbed
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was robbed Monday of $1,180 in property by four men at a traffic light on Wayne Memorial Drive, a Goldsboro police report said.
Tyronie Stroman Jr. of East Lockhaven Drive reported that he stopped for the light at about 2:30 p.m. and a Buick pulled alongside his car. The left-side passenger got out, jumped in Stroman's car, brandished a handgun and ordered him to follow the Buick to Bramblewood Apartments, the report said.
When they stopped, the robber grabbed Stroman's gold necklace, a diamond wedding ring, a diamond earring and $80, police said. The suspects, described as black men, then fled in the Buick.
Stroman followed the suspects' car and rammed it, the report said. The suspects then shot the right rear of Stroman's car, inflicting about $200 in damages.
Drug charges
A traffic stop by the Highway Patrol and a search of a car by a Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputy and his dog on Monday led to the arrest of two Goldsboro men.
Julius Isidore Reid, 19, of Beech Street and Samuel Jermaine Holloman, 29, of North Lionel Street were charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Deputy William Wells went to the stop on South William Street near Spruce Street, and his search dog, Emmy, found 116 grams of marijuana.
A third Goldsboro man also was arrested Monday night by police in the Wayne Motel parking lot and charged with a felony drug offense. Paul Douglas Fields Sr., 51, of Brookwood Lane was charged with possession of cocaine. He was jailed in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
Greenhouse damaged
A greenhouse, irrigation pipes and two trucks were damaged between Sunday and Monday in the 300 block of Frankie's Lane, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
Deputies believed that children may have crashed one truck into the greenhouse and rode the other into the pipes. The keys had been left in both trucks. The owner, Norwood Bruce Howell, estimated damage at $4,000 to the greenhouse, $100 to the pipes and $3,000 to the trucks.
Sheriff's deputies also are investigating two other reports of vandalism:
*The inside of a rental home in the 100 block of Brandywine Drive sustained about $5,625 in damages between April 1 and Monday. The owner, David C. Smith of Goldsboro, said carpet, 13 walls, six doors, three sinks, a dryer and curtains were damaged.
*A newly painted truck sustained an estimated $5,600 in damages between Sunday and Monday in the 100 block of Circle Drive near Pikeville. The owner and resident, Myong O. Kwon, reported that the tailgate, all four doors and fenders and the hood were scratched.
Collisions
Damages were estimated at $24,500 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Both cars were demolished in a collision at 7:50 a.m. Monday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Tarla Cheri Hawley, 19, of Saulston Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Jessica Ashley Smith, 18, of Wayne Memorial Drive. Damages were estimated at $5,000.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 5:10 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 13 near Artis Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Pierre Dewayne Mason, 21, of East Hillsboro Street, Mount Olive, was charged with exceeding a safe speed and no operator's license. His car ran off the left side and struck a ditch and a driveway. Damages were estimated at $10,500.
*Damages were set at $9,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 4:43 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 222 near Old Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Sharon P. Solar, 31, of Dotsie Drive, Fremont, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver, Tara Nichole Fitch, 33, of Kelly Drive, was turning left into a driveway.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $2,915 worth of tools was stolen between Friday and Monday from a trailer at a job site in the 2800 block of Emmaus Church Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had cut a lock from the enclosed trailer to get the property. The property included four drills, a sander, three saws and a saw kit.
*About $450, 400 DVDs, 150 videotapes and an amplifier were stolen between Sunday and Monday from an unlocked car in the 1500 block of Darby Place, Goldsboro police said. The owner and resident, Enrique Perez Ambriz, said his property was valued at $4,475, in addition to the cash.
*A handgun with shells, two video games and two DVDs were stolen Monday after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 1000 block of Courtyard Circle, police said. The resident, Terroshi A. Cox, put a $260 value on his property.
*A blue and white Yamaha dirt bike was stolen between Saturday and Monday after a shed door was damaged in the 1700 block of Palm Street, police said. The owner and resident, Michael Palm, put a $3,000 value on the bike and set damage at $50.
*A white, four-door 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass was stolen between Sunday and Monday from the 1100 block of North Jefferson Avenue, police said. The owner and resident, Carla Joyner, said the car was worth $8,000.
