WCC To hold graduation ceremonies

Wayne Community College will hold two commencement exercises next week.
Adult high school and General Educational Development diplomas will be awarded Thursday, and college students will graduate Friday. Both ceremonies will be held at 6:30 p.m. on campus.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be moved to First Assembly of God Church off U.S. 70 East, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Around 104 adult high school graduates and 219 GED graduates will be recognized Thursday. The college will present associate degrees, diplomas and certificates on Friday.
The speaker for the curriculum graduation is Sarah Price, a 2002 Wayne Community College graduate with an associate degree in agri-business technology program. Miss Price, a native of Wayne County and the 2001 Miss Goldsboro, is on track to complete her bachelor's degree in business management at Mount Olive College in December. She is employed at Goldsboro Laboratories, which produces vaccines for the swine, poultry and cattle divisions of Goldsboro Milling Co.
Capt. Ruth N. Segres will speak at the Basic Skills Department's ceremony. She is a Protestant chaplain on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. She has served as the youth pastor at First Baptist Church in Enfield, N.C., and was an associate minister at Faith Community Baptist Church in Richmond, Va.
Students will also speak at the ceremonies. Matt Bartlett, student government president, is on the program for the curriculum commencement, and Edward Brewington, recipient of an adult high school diploma, will speak at the adult high school and GED graduation.
The George E. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award will be presented during the curriculum commencement. This recognition, provided by the Foundation of Wayne Community College for the 19th year, is presented annually to an instructor who exemplifies quality in the classroom.
Established by an anonymous donor, the award includes a certificate and monetary award. George Wilson was a member of the college's board of trustees and a civic leader in Wayne County and North Carolina.
