Wayne Christian student illustrates book

Wayne Christian High School senior Lewis Braswell has illustrated a children's book.
His art teacher at the school, Susan Stout, said Lewis has a natural talent for art. His strength was in pencil drawing, and he painted an eagle, the school's mascot, on a wall at the school.
The book, "Saving Feathers," was written by Stannette Weaver, a family friend. It is about a little girl who wants to save a turkey from being eaten on Thanksgiving Day.
"She knew that I love to draw and asked if I would like to illustrate the book," Lewis said.
He said he gave her some sample drawings, which were approved by the publisher. So for two months he drew, colored and then submitted 19 illustrations that were used for the book and its cover.
The book was published in the fall and the 18-year-old said he was pleased with the results.
"It's really amazing seeing it published," he said. "I didn't imagine it could look like that. I'm really proud of it."
The son of Ron and Sharon Braswell said he would enjoy doing it again. And he just may.
Ms. Weaver has expressed an interest in writing another book and has mentioned the possibility of Lewis illustrating a book for another author.
Lewis said he plans to attend Wayne Community College in the fall.
