A Goldsboro man on Monday became the sixth person to have been wounded in the last nine days, according to Goldsboro police reports.
The latest victim, Aratika Omhaya Anderson, 24, of East Elm Street, was shot at about 4:25 p.m. as he walked in the 900 block of Hugh Street. Anderson was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to a police report.
Anderson told police that he saw a black sport utility vehicle and a gray car stop and then he heard shots. Anderson ducked for cover but was struck in the right leg. He could not describe the shooter.
Police investigators are following leads in an attempt to determine the shooters in the five cases. Patrols also have been beefed up in the housing projects, said Maj. Mike Hopper, who supervises the patrol division. Four of the five shootings occurred near Lincoln Homes public housing.
The five shootings have been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crimes of the Week."
*The first victim, Rossano Harris, 21, of Lincoln Drive, was wounded at about noon April 18 as he was walking on Lincoln Drive near Olivia Lane. He told officers that four black men in a white Ford Taurus had stopped beside him and opened fire. Harris was released after emergency-room treatment. The suspects were described only as being in their 20s.
*Jermaine Maurice Thompson, 21, of Head Street and James DeAngelo Ray, 16, of North Jefferson Avenue, were wounded at 10:30 p.m. April 20 while they were in a parked car in the 1000 block of Lincoln Drive. They said several people began shooting at their car, and the shots penetrated the car and struck both them. They could not describe their assailants. Both men were released after emergency-room treatment.
*Alroujan Sentell Smith, 17, of Lincoln Drive, was walking home at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday when a black man shot him from a white Toyota Camry in the 900 block of Carver Drive. Police are interviewing witnesses. The suspect has not been described. Smith did not get hospital treatment, a spokeswoman said.
*William Javon Maye, 22 of South Slocumb Street, was walking at about 10:40 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of North Carolina Street. Two black men drove past him, and seconds later, he said, they opened fire, wounding him. He was treated at the hospital and released. He could not identify the assailants.
Anyone with information on these shootings or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
