Seven people injured
in 13 road crashes
Seven people were injured and damages were estimated at $91,600 in 13 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-truck wreck at 2:50 a.m. today on Zion Church Road near N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. The driver fled after the pickup ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. The truck was registered to Francisco Javier Sanchez Hernandez of Carmack Road, Seven Springs, troopers said.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 2:25 a.m. Sunday at Old Grantham Road and Lexington Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Philip Dean Best, 35, of Grady Road, Princeton, was listed today in stable condition, a Wayne Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said. He was to be charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and reckless driving after the car ran off the right side and struck a ditch. Damage was put at $2,500.
*A driver from Duplin County was injured in a one-car crash at 10:15 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 117 near N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. Carlos Joshua Marquez, 16, of Taylor Town Road, Faison, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car struck water in the road, ran off the left side, struck a guardrail, then slid off the right side and crossed back off the left side, hitting the guardrail again. The car, valued at $2,500, was demolished.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a three-car collision at 10 p.m. Saturday at West Ash and North George streets, Goldsboro police said. Elizabeth H. Daniels, 58, of Ironwood Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was charged with a yield violation after her car collided with an oncoming eastbound auto driven by Richard Andrew Day Jr., 22, of Chandler Road. Ms. Daniels' car that was turning left then collided with a stopped, northbound car driven by Renita Katiya Rowe, 16, of Dupont Circle.
*Damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 3:55 p.m. Saturday at East Ash and North Slocumb streets, police said. One driver, Michael Terell Davis, 22, of Kinston, was charged with a yield violation after the car he was driving collided with an oncoming eastbound vehicle driven by Rita Ann Harris, 36, of Longleaf Avenue.
*Damages were set at $5,500 in a two-car collision at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Mulberry and North Lionel streets, police said. A northbound motorist, Anita Lavette Coley, 33, of Central Heights Road, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The other driver was identified as James Cornell Howard, 22, of East Walnut Street.
*A motorist from Trenton was charged with driving left of center after a wreck at 12:45 p.m. Friday on N.C. 55 near Seven Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Devarus T. Gardner, 19, was not injured. Damage was put at $10,000 to the car that ran off the right side, then careened off the left side out of control and overturned in a field.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a three-car crash at 3:21 p.m. Friday on U.S. 70 near Bridgers Road, the Highway Patrol said. A passenger, Jaime McKeown, 19, of Old Grantham Road, and a driver, Napoleon Lee Eason, 45, of Quaker Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. McKeown's driver, Rudolph Ivey, 76, of Old Grantham Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was listed as Christopher Lee Melvin, 18, of Bowie, Md.
*Damages were put at $6,300 in a two-car collision at 7:17 p.m. Friday at U.S. 117 and O'Berry Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Cecilia Jean Williams, 21, of Sand Pit Road, Seven Springs, was charged with a yield violation. The car she was driving collided with a southbound auto operated by Jerrick Muntel Smith, 21, of Short Street, Mount Olive.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-car crash at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ann J. Newcomb, 62, of Wayne Memorial Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Lawrence W. Best, 58, of Valerie Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed as a result of the rear-end crash.
*A 1966 Ford car was damaged in a wreck at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday on Oakland Church Road near Princeton Road, the Highway Patrol said. The car ran off the right side, came back off the left side out of control, struck a ditch and overturned. The driver, Tyler Wade Johnson, 16, of Glenn Drive, was neither injured nor charged. Damage was set at $5,000.
*Damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 10 p.m. Wednesday at N.C. 111 and Zion Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Maria Diaz Sampson, 47, of N.C. 111 North, Seven Springs, was charged with a yield violation. Her turning car collided with an oncoming, eastbound sport utility vehicle driven by Jed M. Potter, 17, of Zion Church Road, Seven Springs.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,300 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:21 a.m. Tuesday on N.C. 111 near St. John Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Emery Brooks, 24, of Maxton was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was identified as Wendel Lynn Campbell, 44, of Longleaf Drive.
Condition improves
Tommy's Road Elementary School student Ryan Goins' condition has again been upgraded, from serious to fair, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
The fourth-grader was injured in a car accident April 5 in which his mother died. The accident occurred on Pikeville-Princeton Road.
Funeral services for Antonia Venise Proctor, 36, of Harding Drive were held on Friday.
Truck driver killed
WALLACE -- A tractor trailer driver from Teachey died this weekend after running off the road and striking a ditch near Wallace, said the state Highway Patrol.
Oscar Thomas Jones, 44, of Northwest Avenue in Teachey, died after the truck he was driving ran off the right side of the road while going north on U.S. 117 about two miles from Wallace.
The truck came to rest in the ditch. The call came in at 9:13 p.m. Sunday, said Trooper J.M. Quinn from the Kenansville Highway Patrol office. The Kenworth tractor trailer was listed as owned by Murphy Brown. The investigation continues.
Three assaulted
Three people have been wounded in separate assaults, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office reports.
*Antonio Lamont Strickland, 27, of Marshall Drive, Dudley, was shot in the shoulder before dawn Sunday during a party in Edwards Mobile Home Park. He declined to prosecute the offender. Strickland was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
*Timothy Philip Taylor, 21, of Dunwoody Drive, Pikeville, was shot in the foot Friday night in his home during a struggle with another man over a rifle. Taylor declined to prosecute the offender. He was released after emergency-room treatment.
*Jose Alfredo Sandoval Granados, 23, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was struck Sunday in the face with a beer bottle in his home. Granados was released after emergency-room treatment.
Man wanted
Dudley
A 33-year-old Wayne County man is wanted by Goldsboro police on charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a gun and interference with emergency communications.
Gary Devon Dudley was accused of barging into a woman's apartment in the 2000 block of Peachtree Street on Saturday and holding her against her will until he fled. Dudley may be in Rosewood or on Durham Lake Road.
Anyone with information on Dudley's location was asked to call police Investigator Trey Ball at 580-4218, police at 705-6572 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may be eligible for a cash reward.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A refrigerator and a stove were stolen after a door glass was smashed at a home in the 100 block of Crosscut Place. A utility trailer, a four-foot lighthouse and a wheelbarrow were stolen from outside. The resident, C.J. Baines, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,940.
*A white gold diamond ring was stolen after window locks were damaged at a home in the 2200 block of Pikeville-Princeton Road. The resident, Patsy May, put a $250 value on the ring.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A 27-inch television was stolen Sunday after a door lock was damaged at a home in the 700 block of Stronach Avenue. The resident, J.C. Jones, put a $300 value on the TV.
*A white, four-door 1992 Chevrolet Corsica was stolen from the 3700 block of East Ash Street. The resident, William G. Carlyle, said the car was worth $1,000.
Drug charges
Three people have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Michael Scott Butts, 23, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was charged Saturday by sheriff's deputies with possession of cocaine and two misdemeanors, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was $5,000.
*Allen Carmichael Jr., 22, of South Best Avenue was charged Sunday by deputies with possession with intent to sell marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
*Joseph Arrington Daniels, 17, of South Madison Avenue was charged Sunday by Goldsboro police with possession with intent to sell marijuana. His bond was $1,000.
