Man robbed
A Mar Mac resident was forced to disrobe at gunpoint in his home and then robbed Wednesday night of about $4,750 worth of property, a Wayne County Sheriff's report said.
Raymond Francis Aube, 57, of Running Branch Circle told deputies that two masked black men, one armed with a handgun, knocked on his door at about 10:10 p.m., barged inside and demanded his money.
The robbers then forced Aube to a bedroom, ordered him to take his clothes off and lie down on the floor, the report said.
The robbers then took a Nikon camera, a video camera, 20 DVD movies, a DVD player, a telephone and $156 in coins.
The robbers were described as being 5-feet-9 to 6-1, one with a slim build and one with a medium build. One wore a white mask, and the other had a dark mask. They also wore dark coats and pants and had socks on their hands.
Arson fraud
A 27-year-old Rocky Mount firefighter has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with setting fire to his own home on Rosewood Road.
Michael Chad Howell was charged with fraudulently burning a dwelling on Jan. 2. He was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond. Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler and State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent John Rea investigated the case.
Tools stolen
An estimated $16,485 worth of tools and a box trailer, valued at $2,200, were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a construction site on Providence Church Road, a Wayne County sheriff's report said.
The owner of the trailer, Timothy Wayne Holloman of Faro Road, Fremont, reported the theft of an air compressor, six extension ladders, a metal brush, six saws, four nailers, three routers, a drill, an air hose, drop cords, a volt meter, two sanders, a grinder, a jack and hand tools. His property was valued at $17,465.
John Howard Gerken of Adler Lane reported the theft of three saws and a nailer -- valued at $610.
Sheriff's deputies also are investigating these reports:
*A stereo system, a vacuum, a television and a video cassette recorder were stolen Sunday after a lock was cut from a rental storage locker at 325 Stoney Creek Church Road. The renter, Ginger Wright of Fremont, said the property was worth $910.
*Vandals smashed four windows and four walls and then stole bathroom faucets at a vacant, rental mobile home in the 100 block of North Timberland Drive. Damage was set at $1,400, and the faucets were valued at $100.
Jewelry stolen
An undetermined amount of jewelry was stolen today after a window and a display case were smashed at Boulevard Pawn at 2419 E. Ash St., a Goldsboro police report said.
Police responded to an alarm at about 12:20 a.m. The thief spilled $946 worth of jewelry on his way out, and it was recovered, police said. Damage was estimated at more than $500.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*Stereo equipment, a jacket, a compact disc player, four pairs of sunglasses and a radar detector were stolen Wednesday after a car window was shattered at Performance East at 1308 W. Grantham St. The car owner, Jason Kyle Barnes of Dudley, estimated the value of his property at $2,250 and damage at $75. The stereo equipment included two amplifiers, two speakers, a capacitor and a speaker box.
*Video-game equipment, shoes and about $30 were stolen Wednesday after a door was pried open at a home in the 400 block of West Hooks River Road. The resident, Nicole Nicholson, put a $545 value on the property.
*A blue, four-door 1985 Buick LeSabre was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the owner's home in the 300 block of West Mulberry Street. Clarence Ray Brinson said the car was worth $1,000.
Van, tractor collide
Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $40,000 Tuesday in a collision of a van and a farm tractor on U.S. 117, north of N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the van, to Stephen Ray Jones, 35, of Acreview Drive, and the operator of the tractor, Nathan Earl Bryant, 32, of Bryant Street, were injured, the report said. Jones was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where he was listed in good condition, a spokeswoman said. Bryant was not treated at Wayne or Pitt Memorial, officials said.
Jones was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck at 2:15 p.m. Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the van, registered to R.A. Jeffreys Distribution Co. of Goldsboro, and at $30,000 to the tractor, registered to J. Isaac Farms of Goldsboro.
In other collisions:
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Cashwell Drive, Goldsboro police said. Dianna B. Hinnant, 56, of Buck Swamp Road was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other motorist was identified as Mariah O. Fisher, 25, of Pineview Cemetery Road, Seven Springs.
*Both cars were demolished in a wreck at 8:04 p.m. Tuesday on Pecan Road near Mitchell Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Kimberly D. McClarin, 39, of Oriole Drive, Dudley, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver was listed as Leroy Thomas Darden, 47, of Deborah Lane.
