Fire destroys house
A vacant house at 903 Greenleaf St. was destroyed Saturday in a fire that was referred to Goldsboro police for a further investigation.
Assistant Fire Chief Ray Boyette said the home was engulfed in flames when he arrived. He said the fire may have going for a while before firefighters were notified at 4:15 p.m.
Sixteen firefighters responded with three engines, a ladder and a command car. They needed about two hours and a half to put out the fire, investigate the cause and finish salvage work.
The two-floor, wood-frame home was valued at about $25,000, Boyette said. The owner had not been identified.
Two teens robbed
Two teen-aged girls and a telephone company employee were robbed in separate weekend holdups, Goldsboro police reports said.
The two girls -- Vanity Davis, 16, of Pikeville and Melena Hudgins, 17, of Goldsboro -- were robbed Sunday by a man to whom they had given a ride home. The girls had picked up the man on Rockefeller Circle at about 7:15 p.m. and took him to Humphrey Street, police said. The man went inside, came back out, displayed a handgun and took $100 from one girl and $10 from the other, police said.
The robber was described as black, about 20 years old, 6-feet and 180 pounds with a thin build, short black hair and brown eyes. He wore a black jacket, a black hat and dark gray pants.
An employee of SunCom of Goldsboro -- Robert Mooring, 20, of Goldsboro -- was struck on the head at about 9 p.m. Saturday in the Berkeley Mall parking lot as he was making a bank deposit, police said. He was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.
The robber was described only as being black and 5-feet-11, and he wore a hooded sweatshirt.
Man wounded
A 31-year-old Goldsboro man was wounded Friday night when he responded to an alleged assault on his sister, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Michael Andre Quinn of Mimosa Park Drive was shot in the leg and his sport utility vehicle also was struck, deputies said. Quinn was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Damage was set at $200 to his SUV.
No charges have been filed.
Six hurt in wrecks
Six people were injured and damages were estimated at $44,200 in eight recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A passenger was injured and the car was demolished at 4 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 13 near Hood Swamp Road, the Highway Patrol said. Rayford Moore, 17, of Hamilton Drive, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Courtney James Tatum, 18, of Devereaux Street, was charged with reckless driving after the car ran off the right side, struck a power pole and overturned. Tatum said he had fallen asleep. Damages were set at $7,500.
*A motorcyclist fell from his bike and was injured at about 6:39 p.m. Saturday on Royall Avenue near North Drive, Goldsboro police said. George Ray Nelson, 40, of Mark Edwards Road was found partly in the road and partly on the shoulder by a passing motorist. He was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges have been filed.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 at 11:35 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 13 near Hood Swamp Road, the Highway Patrol said. Bradley Dwayne Thomas, 17, of Stevens Place, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Troopers said he had started a left turn and collided with an oncoming, northbound sport utility vehicle driven by Kimberly Dawn Bass, 33, of U.S. 13 North.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 13 near Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joseph Doyle Perkins, 79, of Circle Drive, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist was identified as Keith Donnell Cobb, 42, of Cobb Coley Lane, Dudley.
*Damages were set at $5,500 at 3:25 p.m. Thursday at Miller's Chapel and Long's Plant Farm roads, the Highway Patrol said. Harry Linwood Thurlow, 72, of Biltmore Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was listed as Justin Kyle Bernel, 17, of Saddlewood Drive.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 at 8:10 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Road and Leonard Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Jamell Bell, 26, of East New Hope Road and Juana Nicole Salazar, 19, of Inez Lane were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Salazar, who had pulled from Leonard Drive, was charged with a yield violation.
*A westbound driver from Rocky Mount was injured and damages were put at $6,500 at 11:49 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 70 near Camden Park Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Kathryn Lanishe Andrews, 34, was released after emergency-room treatment. She had stopped to make a left turn. An eastbound motorist, Fabiola Castaneda Vega, 22, of Arrington Bridge Road, Dudley, was charged with reckless driving after he lost control of the car that he was driving and it collided with Ms. Andrews' vehicle, spun around, struck a ditch and stopped in the westbound lanes.
*A driver from Mount Olive was injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday at N.C. 581 and Memorial Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Teresa Irene Davis, 42, of N.C. 55 West was released after emergency-room treatment. The eastbound driver, Darius Thomas Weeks, 25, of Chestnut Street, Fremont, was charged with a yield violation.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A thief cut a hole in the ceiling in the 100 block of Sourwood Drive and then stole a book of checks and financial papers from a home. The resident is Cathryn Wardley of Goldsboro.
*A dryer, a telescope with a case, a television and a gas grill were stolen Sunday after a padlock was cut from a rental storage unit at 325 Stoney Creek Church Road. The renter, Angela G. Pate of Goldsboro, put a $797 value on her property.
*A television and a microwave oven were stolen from the office of Lifestyle Homes at 6051 U.S. 70 E. A satellite receiver box and a window also were damaged. The stolen property was valued at $200.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment was stolen Saturday after an apartment door was damaged on Courtyard Circle. The resident, Ebony Hicks, estimated the property's value at $590.
*A stereo and five compact discs were stolen Saturday after a car door lock was damaged in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Berkeley Boulevard. The owner, Jeff Scott Macumber of Goldsboro, estimated his property's value at $250.
*An unlocked gold, two-door Nissan Pulsar -- with the key left inside -- was stolen Saturday from Lionel and Walnut streets. The owner, John Linwood Sutton of LaGrange, said the car was worth $1,500.
*A compact disc player, two speakers and an amplifier were stolen after a car window was smashed on Vanderbilt Circle. The owner, Stephen Parks of Goldsboro, estimated his property's value at $550.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro boy was reported missing Friday by relatives to Goldsboro police. Yadshae Dashon Jones of 302-A Brazil St. was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 170 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.
When he was seen last at 8 p.m. March 18, he was wearing a black shirt and black jeans. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 736-4933.
