She succeeds Sandra Faye Bell, who announced she would retire at the end of the month.
Mrs. Ogburn holds master's degrees in arts in education and school administration from East Carolina University. She received her bachelor's degree in education from Kentucky Christian College.
She said she was notified of the transfer last week and has had a busy week making the change to her new role.
"I'm sad to be leaving Greenwood," she said, "but I'm excited about the new move and starting over here with the children at Fremont STARS."
Dr. Steven Taylor, superintendent of Wayne County public schools, said Mrs. Ogburn brings a wide range of experience and educational preparation to her new role as principal of Fremont STARS.
"She has been successful as a teacher and administrator and looks forward to this new challenge," he said. "Mrs. Ogburn has a reputation of working well with staff, parents, community and students and will transition smoothly as she works to assure the success of each child."
Mrs. Bell has been at Fremont STARS since 2000 and has spent more than 34 years in education in Wayne County. She was principal at School Street Elementary for two years and was also assistant principal at North Drive Elementary School from 1996 to 2000 and served as curriculum facilitator for one year at Dillard Middle.
She has taught at the elementary and middle school levels and holds advanced certification and a master's degree in elementary education from East Carolina University and a bachelor's degree in geography.
