Elks banquet
Four presentations of the state's highest award will be made Saturday at the Goldsboro Elks Lodge Law Enforcement Banquet.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception at the lodge at 105 E. Chestnut St. Tickets for the banquet are $25, which includes a steak dinner.
The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the state's highest award. It will be presented to R.C. Gregory, a survivor of the Bataan Death March in the Philippines in World War II. The award will also be presented in memory of sheriff's Capt. Jerry Best, who was hit by a car while trying to remove a deer from the road; and in memory of Lt. Col. William Watkins and Capt. Eric Das from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, who died when their F-15E Strike Eagle crashed in Iraq.

Daffodil Festival
The 18th annual Daffodil Festival is scheduled for Saturday in downtown Fremont.
There will be entertainment, crafts and vendors. The Embers, a popular group from Raleigh, will return as the afternoon's headline entertainment. Other new groups will be the Goldsboro Ballet, which will perform "Cinderella" in the morning, and Day One, a gospel group that will sing after The Embers.
The festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. For more information on the festival, see the Think Spring section in today's News-Argus.
Warehouse designation
Anyone selling tobacco at auction or a Stabilization Marketing Center must designate a warehouse by April 15.
So far, only 12 farms have been designated. Farmers contracting with tobacco companies do not have to designate a warehouse. Any producers requesting a separate 3 percent marketing card must do so in writing.

Smith is Prince Charming
Ron Smith, a company member of the Greenville Civic Ballet, has been cast to dance the role of Prince Charming in the Goldsboro Ballet production of "Cinderella."
Smith lives in Pink Hill and has performed in a number of professional productions.
The ballet will be performed at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $8, $10 and $12 and can be purchased at the Arts Council of Wayne County until noon on Friday. They can also be bought at the door.
Work in the park
Volunteers will be working again Saturday in the Seven Springs Community Park.
The work day will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until the replica of the Confederate States Ship Neuse is completed.
About 15 volunteers came close to finishing the job last Saturday.
This weekend, the town board members plan to bring the volunteers home-baked cookies and brownies and soft drinks between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The town has until March 31 to finish the park work.
