Officer struck;
driver charged
A Goldsboro police officer and his dog were struck by a van Saturday night on Rudolph Street, a police report said. The driver fled but was arrested later and charged with multiple offenses.
Officer David A. Cloutier was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. His dog, Azo, was treated at a veterinary clinic.
Dollie Ruth Jones, 60, of Edgerton Street, was charged with felony hit and run resulting in injury, driving while impaired, an opened container violation and resisting arrest. She registered .17 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said.
Ms. Jones was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
In other collisions:
*An eastbound driver, trying to remove a spider from his arm, lost control of his pickup at 2:06 p.m. Saturday on West Grantham Street, police said. The truck then ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned in the westbound lanes. J.C. Burney, 73, of Stantonsburg was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. No charges were filed. His pickup sustained about $5,000 in damages.
*A motorcyclist was ejected while making a left turn at 11 p.m. Saturday on East Ash Street near Barrow Court, police said. Aaron Michael Hess, 21, of Spring Creek Road was released after emergency-room treatment, a hospital spokeswoman said. No charges were filed. Damage was set at $1,000 to the bike.
*A driver said he had fallen asleep at 4 a.m. Thursday and the tractor-trailer that he was driving ran off the left side of Piney Grove Church Road, struck a ditch and stopped in a canal, the Highway Patrol said. Donald Holland, 39, of Ironwood Road was injured in the crash and treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He also was charged with reckless driving. Damage to the rig, owned by Laughlin Poultry Farms of Goldsboro, was put at $30,000.
*Damage was estimated at $30,000 at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, when a tractor-trailer overturned at Garris Chapel and Piney Grove Church roads, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Matthew Parker Jones, 20, of Clayton, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. He was driving for Mac Jones of Clayton.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 6:35 p.m. Thursday on Kelly Springs Road near Emmaus Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Robert Raymore Browne, 28, of Clover Ridge Drive, Dudley, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car ran off the left side and collided with a parked tractor-trailer. The car was valued at $5,000. Damage to the Forbes Transfer Co. rig from Wilson was set at $2,000.
*Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 13 near Edwards Store Road, the Highway Patrol said. John Edward Graven Jr., 45, of Patsy Lane, was charged with improper passing after his pickup collided with a car driven by Edward Allen Houston, 30, of Veach's Mill Road, Warsaw.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-car crash at 1:15 p.m. March 15 at U.S. 117 and Belfast Road, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, William Aaron White, 20, of Country Run Lane, Dudley, and his passenger, Steven James, 23, of Hinnant Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. An eastbound motorist, Amanda Renee Dixson, 20, of Beniford Drive, Pikeville, was charged with a stop-sign violation.
Crime of the Week
The armed robbery of a pizza delivery man has been selected by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crime of the Week."
Johann Gylfason, an employee of It's Always Pizza Time of Goldsboro, was making a delivery at about 10:45 p.m. March 13 in the 200 block of East Vine Street, where three black men robbed him. One suspect pointed a silver handgun at Gylfason and demanded his money. They grabbed about $95 and $18.30 worth of food and fled.
Anyone with information on this robbery or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A stove and a refrigerator were stolen after a window was smashed in a rental home in the 900 block of Bethune Avenue, police said in a report filed today. The owner, Geraldine Sherard of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen appliances at $900 and damage at $35.
*A video camera, a still camera, two sweaters, a book bag and about $30 were stolen between March 14 and Saturday from a home in the 600 block of North Herman Street, police said. The resident, Rick Cassidy, put a $990 value on his property, in addition to the cash.
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A riding lawn mower with a 38-inch cut was stolen from the 2900 block of U.S. 117 North, sheriff's deputies said. The owner and resident, William Edward Bailey, put a $1,700 value on the mower.
*A chain saw was stolen between Feb. 19 and Saturday after a window was shattered in a shed in the 4200 block of U.S. 13 North, deputies said. The resident and owner, Gene Roger Lancaster, said the saw was worth $50.
Drug charges
Two women were arrested early Sunday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses in separate cases.
*Rita Lea Lee, 30, of Crabapple Lane was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver an unidentified controlled substance in the Pinewood Square parking lot on North Spence Avenue. She also was charged with three misdemeanors -- possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a concealed weapon. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,500 secured bond.
*Elaine Beverly Moore, 42, of North Virginia Street was charged with possession of cocaine in the 1100 block of 11th Street. She was jailed in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Missing
Two people were reported missing Sunday by relatives to Wayne County authorities.
*Aurora Garcia, about 60, of Kinston was described as Hispanic, 5-feet and 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. When she was seen last at about 2 p.m. Sunday at Lowe's, she was wearing a pink blouse, a dark skirt and black shoes.
*Chad Donnavan Herring, 15, of 1575 Indian Springs Road, Mount Olive, was described as black, 5-feet-11 and 130 pounds with black hair in corn rows, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He was seen last at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. No clothing description was available.
