Two charged in pizza robbery
Two teen-agers were arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with robbing a pizza delivery man of two large pizzas and sodas.
Deontray Dontrell Usher, 17, of Baltimore and Lamont William Stanton, 19, of Charlotte were charged with felony common-law robbery. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Christopher McAdams reported that he was delivering pizzas at about 10 p.m. for Always Pizza Time of 2314 N. William St. He said he stopped at a home in the 400 block of Kornegay Street and no one answered the door.
When he was returning to his car, the two men said, "No one home, huh?" then assaulted McAdams, grabbed the food and fled. McAdams described the suspects, and later Officer Julie Taylor arrested the two men in the 500 block of Park Avenue.
Two convicted in murder scheme
A former Kinston insurance agent has been sentenced in Lenoir County Superior Court to about three to five years in prison for trying to hire an assassin to kill his former wife so that he could collect $500,000 in life insurance.
Ormond Lester Spence, 48, pleaded no-contest to the charge of solicitation to commit first-degree murder that he had conspired to kill Rose Marie Harper Madre in 2002 in Onslow County.
The other defendant, Gregory Brian Quinn, 28, of Lenoir County also was sentenced this week to seven to 10 years after pleading guilty to his part in the scheme.
Wayne County sheriff's detectives and the State Bureau of Investigation had assisted Lenoir County authorities in the case. Sheriff Carey Winders said Dec. 11, 2002, that the officers' quick response to a confidential informant's tip had saved the life of Mrs. Madre, who had remarried.
Six hurt in wrecks
Six people were injured in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-car collision at 2:30 p.m. Thursday on North Spence Avenue near Royall Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Antoinette F. Smith, 33, of Pearson Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, April Nicole Summerlin, 18, of Selah Church Road, Four Oaks, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The amount of damages was not immediately known.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-car wreck at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday on Powell Road near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, David Allen Glowner, 24, of Central Heights Road, was charged with driving while impaired and driving while his license was revoked. The car he was driving ran off the right side and struck a ditch, troopers said.
*Two people were injured and their car was demolished in a wreck at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday on Central Heights Road near Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Amanda Nicole Abrams, 16, of Renee Drive, and her passenger, Kelly Schatzman, 16, of Bayleaf Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Abrams was charged with driving left of center. Troopers said the car ran off the right side, struck a ditch, careened back across the road out of control, struck a tree off the left side and a porch at 4057 Central Heights Road. The car was valued at $4,000. Damage to the porch was set at $3,000.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:37 p.m. Monday on U.S. 70 near Luby Smith Road, the Highway Patrol said. Narshiran Moody Vann, 26, of Allen Street was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Garry Darnell Faison, 39, of Clinton, was charged with an improper lane change after the tractor-trailer that he was driving for Blanchard and Johnson Transportation of Kenansville sideswiped the car. Damages were put at $2,000.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a one-car wreck at 12:04 a.m. Sunday on Fairmax Road near Ditchbank Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Patrick Russell McSwain, 17, of Hermitage Lane, Mount Olive, was charged with reckless driving. The car that he was driving ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $9,100 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:01 p.m. March 12 at U.S. 13 and Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol. Charles Edward Hickman, 35, of Timothy Street, Dudley, and Jessica Kenion, 25, of Bartlett Road, Pikeville, were released after emergency-room treatment. Hickman was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
Dog shot
A resident cooking dinner heard gunshots outside of her home near Dudley and discovered a dog had been shot and her home damaged, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
Margaret A. Batts of Janice Drive told deputies that the shooters may have fled in an older gray, four-door car. Damage to her home was estimated at $1,000.
Safe, cash stolen
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A safe containing $2,000 in cash and $150 in silver coins and a handgun were stolen Thursday after a window was damaged at a home in the 3000 block of N.C. 581 North, deputies said. The resident, George R. Holland, estimated the value of the safe and the handgun at $400 and damage at $200.
*A yellow Honda four-wheeler and a blue trailer were stolen Friday from the owner's yard in the 1100 block of Buck Swamp Road, deputies said. The resident, S.E. Quintal, said the four-wheeler was worth $6,000 and the trailer, $650.
*An air compressor and a VHS tape were stolen between March 12 and Thursday after a door was damaged at a home in the 200 block of Doug Drive, deputies said. The resident, James Thomas Laws Jr., put a $315 value on his property and set damage at $50.
Check fraud
An 18-year-old woman was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony check forgery.
Pamela Dianne Davis of Party Road, Pikeville, received a $3,000 bond. She was charged by Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour after an investigation of a March 10 report.
Missing
A 14-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing Thursday by her mother to Goldsboro police. Johnice Thyrell Bryant of 729 Isler St. was described as black, 5-feet and 130 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a light complexion.
When she was seen last at 9 p.m. Monday, Ms. Bryant was wearing blue jeans, black shoes and a blue hooded coat. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 736-4933.
