General honored
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's top officer and his wife have received the Gen. and Mrs. Jerome F. O'Malley Award.
The honor was presented to Brig. Gen. Rick Rosborg, 4th Fighter Wing commander, and his wife, Elizabeth, on March 12. Gen. Hal Hornburg, Air Combat Command commander, presented the award during his visit to the base.
The award recognizes the wing commander and spouse whose contributions to the nation, Air Force and local community best exemplify the highest ideals and positive leadership.
Rosborg was recognized for his outstanding leadership during Operation Noble Eagle, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His significant accomplishments included two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, the Commander in Chief's Installation Excellence Award, and directing over $55 million in base construction projects.
Mrs. Rosborg's accomplishments included leading the Command Spouse Leadership Conference, initiating the Community Leader's Spouses tour and becoming the Local International Wives Club adviser.
Wrong time
The Bach Birthday Concert at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon will begin at 3, not 5 as was reported to the News-Argus.
Breanna and Gina Ponzi, pianists, and Paul Cunningham, harpsichordist, will present Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier."
A reception will follow.
Miss Daffodil crowned
Paige Stewart, a senior at Charles B. Aycock High School, has been crowned Miss Daffodil for the 18th annual Daffodil Festival in Fremont.
Miss Stewart, the daughter of Keith and Linda Stewart, also is a former Little Miss Daffodil. Her father is one of the original organizers of the festival. This year's event will be held March 27.
Amy Johnson, the daughter of Cheryl and Gene Hooks and also a senior at Aycock, was chosen as the runner-up.
Ten contestants will seek the Little Miss Daffodil crown at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Fremont Stars School. The contestants must attend the third through the fifth grades at the school.
Moore fund-raiser
N.C. Sen. Tony Moore's campaign will hold a fund-raiser in Wayne County on March 27.
The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the home of Carolyn and Douglas Russell.
The keynote speakers will be Moore and N.C. Sen. Fred Smith. U.S. Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr. will be a special guest. Several Republican officials and candidates also plan to attend.
The event will raise money for Moore, who plans to challenge N.C. Sen. John Kerr, a Democrat from Goldsboro. Redistricting left the two senators in the same district. Moore subsequently changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.
Mrs. Russell, a six-term member of the N.C. House before her unsuccessful 2002 challenge of Kerr, is throwing her support behind Moore.
"I hope those who have supported me in the past will help him this year," she said. "Senator Moore is the candidate that best represents the values of our area."

Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at Nahunta Friends Church. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
