Dead man identified
A man shot to death Saturday night in front of a mobile home near Seven Springs has been identified as a former resident of Greenville, S.C.
Family members from Greenville came Wednesday to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and identified the victim as 29-year-old Esteban Cruz Martinez.
Sheriff Carey Winders said Martinez's relatives were vague about the victim's recent actions. Martinez, who was found wearing a ski mask, died of a single gunshot wound to the head. He was found outside of a mobile home 1277-A Camp Jubilee Road.
The lead investigator, Detective Sgt. Mike Dale, is being assisted by Lt. Tom Effler and Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden in the case.
Dump truck stolen
A white 1986 Ford dump truck was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from J.R. Auto Parts at 724 Marshall St., a Goldsboro police report said.
The thief had cut a chain in order to enter a fenced area, found the hidden ignition key in the truck and drove it away, police said. The truck was valued at $15,000.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*About $650, two cash register drawers and a safe were stolen Wednesday from Nino's Italian Grille at 335 N. Spence Ave. The safe and drawers were valued at $100. The thief pried open a door to get inside, police said.
*A .22 caliber rifle was stolen Wednesday after a truck door was damaged in the 300 block of A Street. The owner, James Clifton Best of Goldsboro, said the rifle was worth $200.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A DVD player, a shotgun, a video cassette recorder and checks were stolen after a door was damaged at a home in the 300 block of Antioch Road. The property, owned by the resident, Ruth H. Perkins, was valued at $820.
*A DVD player, 24 DVD movies and video-game equipment were stolen Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Athens Drive. The resident, A.D. Faison, estimated the property's value at $1,030.
Drug charge
A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police at a motel and charged with a felony drug offense.
Jamie Ramon Carroll of Timberline Oak Drive was charged with possession with intent to sell cocaine and numerous misdemeanors -- one count each of assault on a law-enforcement officer, assault on a female, and injury to property, and two counts each of communicating threats and resisting arrest.
Carroll was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.
Man sought
A 24-year-old man from Wilson is sought by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for trying to steal a four-wheeler.
Shannon Clyde Grimes was described only as a white man. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris at 731-1480 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for a cash reward.
Parole considered
Randy L. Pace, who was convicted in 1986 in Wayne County Superior Court of second-degree murder, is being considered for parole by the state Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission.
The commission is gathering information from those in favor and those against a parole for Pace.
Missing
Lambert
A 60-year-old man was reported missing Wednesday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Clayton Russell Lambert of 103 S. Quail Run was described as white, 5-feet-9, 140 pounds and balding with brown hair, brown eyes and tattoos of a sunflower on his left arm and an eagle on his left shoulder.
Lambert was seen last at 6 p.m. Tuesday. He may be driving a four-door beige Buick. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
