Ten to compete for Miss Eastern Wayne

The Paramount Theater will be the setting Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. as 10 young ladies compete for the title of "Miss Eastern Wayne High School 2004."

The theme of the 11th annual scholarship pageant is "All That Jazz." The pageant is sponsored by the Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Over $4,000 in scholarships will be awarded to the top three winners. Special guests will include Miss Goldsboro Bridgett Mooring and the reigning Miss Eastern Wayne, Lauren Grantham. The emcee for the evening will be Michelle Braxton.

The contests are as follows:

Senior Erin Michelle Acree, 18, will perform a lyrical ballet to "I'll Always Be Your Baby" by Natalie Grant. Erin is the daughter of Mike and Cyndi Acree.

Senior Ashley Brooke Ardis, 17, will sing "Matchmaker" from "Fiddler on the Roof." Ashley is the daughter of George and Ginger Ardis.

Senior Quantel Backus, 17, will perform a modern dance to "I Want to Be Where You Are" by Michael Jackson. Quantel is the daughter of Elbert and Faye Backus.

Senior Dina Elizabeth Gambella, 18, will sing "Fly Me to the Moon." Dina is the daughter of Steven and Deborah Gambella.

Junior Brittany Ham, 16, will sing "When You Are Loved" from "The Magic of Lassie." Brittany is the daughter of Jay and Ann Ham.

Junior Monica Marie Moulder, 16, will perform an Irish step dance. Monica is the daughter of Robert and Mary Moulder.

Senior Virginia Winston Narron, 18, will perform a tap dance to "Think" by Aretha Franklin. Ginny is the daughter of Rooster and Robin Narron.

Senior Jinjer Elizabeth Painter, 17, will sing "Serious." Jinjer is the daughter of Ralph and Joy Painter .

Senior Rochelle Lauren Rice, 17, will sing "A Natural Woman." Rochelle is the daughter of Victor and Barbara Rice.

Junior Ashley Gray Smith, 17, will sing "Killing Me Softly." Ashley is the daughter of Bobby and Angie Smith.

Tickets are $5 a person and may be purchased from contestants or the pageant director, Carolyn Wegman at EWHS, 751-7120. Tickets will also be available at the door.
