MOUNT OLIVE -- Plans are set for the 2004 N.C. Pickle Festival.

The festival this year will be held April 22 through 25. The event attracts vendors from several states and an estimated 15,000 visitors, says a spokesman for the festival committee.

The festival earns awards each year from the N.C. Association of Festivals and Events. The committee members say they are working to keep up the award-winning tradition for 2004.

The success of the festival depends on the support of sponsors. Their donations help the town recruit doctors, and they also help the town's schools and parks. Sponsorships are due before April 5. An Appreciation Reception will be held on April 22 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Southern Wayne Country Club, with the sponsors' names appearing in the festival program.

The events begin with the Golf Classic on April 22.

The Band of Oz will perform April 23 from 8 p.m. until midnight at the Mount Olive airport. Carnival rides will run that night beginning at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, April 24, the festival kicks off with the Tour de Pickle and the Cucumber Patch 5K Run, a Classic Car Show, Harley Motorcycle Show and events all day downtown.

The Friends of the Park will hold a walk-a-thon Sunday, April 25, at Westbrook Park beginning at 2 p.m., and the traditional Interdenominational Worship Service will follow in the park at about 6 p.m.

Sponsors can send their tax deductible contributions to the Waylin Area Foundation, 123 N. Center St., Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
