Goldsboro fire department report

The Goldsboro Fire Department responded to one major house fire and three smaller structure fires among the 162 calls that it answered in February.
Chief Bobby Greenfield wrote in his monthly report that firefighters also took part in 373 hours of company training and 1,278 hours of individual training.
Damages were estimated at $17,000 in a fire Feb. 26 to a home at 707 E. Spruce St.
Two women walking past the house saw the fire and tapped on the window to alert the resident, Alfred Watson, who then escaped through a bedroom window.
Firefighters put out the blaze and determined that the fire had started near a couch. The exact cause, though, has not been found. The home was valued at $20,000 and the contents at $2,000.
A candle left too close to combustibles was blamed Feb. 16 for a fire that caused about $800 in damages to a home at 1709 S. Slocumb St. The property and contents were valued at $80,000. The occupant was identified as Lori Frost and the owner as Ernest Waters of Goldsboro.
A storage shed at 800 E. Mulberry St. was damaged Feb. 14 in a fire.
The damage was set at $500. The building and its contents were valued at $9,000.
An oven malfunction was blamed Feb. 5 for a kitchen fire that caused about $200 in damages to the Lanise Bass apartment at 1505 S. John St. The property, owned by Keen Plumbing Co., and the contents had an estimated value of $115,000.
During February, firefighters took part in rescue and hazardous materials training on the department level.
Company training was held in building construction, snorkel skills, ropes and knots, fire behavior, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire hose skills, street skills, ladders, ventilation and friction loss.
