Mount Olive College forms foundation

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College announced today the formation of the Mount Olive College Foundation, which will serve as an independent fund-raising arm for the college.
The college is the third-fastest growing and fourth-most-affordable private college in North Carolina, say college officials.
George Kornegay, president of the foundation, said the purpose of the foundation is "to find alternate sources of funding and equipment for a variety of programs and projects addressing the needs of a growing Mount Olive College."
He said the nonprofit organization will be dedicated to supporting the mission of the college and extending the outreach services for the community.
The board of directors for the foundation, governed by 15 to 25 members, will work to provide Mount Olive College with access to philanthropic, corporate, civic and governmental decision-makers, while serving as ambassadors to further the mission of the college.
The foundation bylaws require that three of the directors constituting the board will be from Mount Olive College. They are the president, the vice president for institutional advancement and the chairman of the board of trustees.
Seven members, including Kornegay, have been named to the board: Bill Bryan, president of Mt. Olive Pickle Co.; Buddy Pope, CEO of E.J. Pope & Son; Lois Britt, special assistant to the president of Murphy-Brown, LLC; Darrell Horne, CEO of Horne Storage Co. and chairman of the Mount Olive College Board of Trustees; Bill Byrd, president of Mount Olive College; and Becky Mitchell, college vice president for institutional advancement. Bryan will serve as treasurer, and Ms. Mitchell will serve as secretary.
"The Mount Olive College Foundation will provide many opportunities for individuals, businesses and community groups to invest in the future of Mount Olive College, and in turn invest in the future of the agricultural and industrial base of eastern North Carolina for years to come," said Buddy Pope, foundation board member.
"I am pleased to be a part of the foundation and look forward to the great work we can accomplish for Mount Olive College and the area."
