Nine people injured
in county collisions
Nine people were injured and damages were estimated at $58,000 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A car ran off the right side of Spruce Street near Hollowell Street at 6 a.m. Sunday, struck a power and was demolished, police said. The driver fled from the wreck, police said. The registered owner, Jose Cesar Amador, 35, of Simmons Street told police that the car had been stolen. Amador was charged later with hit and run, no liability insurance, no inspection, improper registration and failure to reduce speed. His car was valued at $8,000. Damage to the pole was set at $1,500.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 8:30 a.m. Friday on Old Mount Olive Road near Boykin Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Valarie Ann James, 22, of Hinnant Road, Pikeville, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. No charges were filed after the southbound car ran off the right side and struck a tree. Damage was put at $1,500.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 8:48 p.m. Thursday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Graves Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Michelle M. Glaser, 19, of Serenity Drive, and her passenger, Ashley Turnage, 19, of Providence Church Road, were released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Brandon Edward Branham, 27, of Park Avenue, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Police said Branham pulled from a restaurant parking lot and his pickup collided with Ms. Glaser's northbound car.
*A passenger was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on New Hope Road near Darby Road, police said. Kelly Nicole Oglesby, 15, of Pinewood Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. Her driver, Teresa B. Oglesby, 42, of Pinewood Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the rear-end crash. The other motorists were identified as David Edward Smith, 45, of J.W. Road, Pikeville, and James Roy Stanley III, 39, McWood Place. Damages were put at $3,000.
*Three people were injured and both cars were demolished in a collision at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday on Old Mount Olive Road near Southern Wayne Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Diane Artis Williams, 45, of North Center Street, Mount Olive, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Her passenger, Tenesha Williams, 12, of North Center Street, Mount Olive, and the other driver, Helen Cherry Boothe, 67, of Southern Plaza Drive, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Diane Williams was charged with driving left of center. The cars were valued at $26,000.
*Two passengers were injured and both vehicles were demolished in a crash at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday on Norwayne School Road near Governor Aycock Road, the Highway Patrol said. Brandon Williams, 16, and Jerry Gray, 20, both of Chestnut Street, Fremont, were released after emergency-room treatment. Their northbound driver, Charles Ray Whitley Jr., 20, of South Sycamore Street, Fremont, was charged with failure to burn headlamps. The other motorist who was leaving a driveway, Mark Elliot Milliken, 25, of Ryan Boulevard, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The vehicles were valued at $12,500.
Crime of the Week
Break-ins at Andy's fast-food restaurants in Goldsboro, Pikeville and Mar Mac have been chosen by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as its latest "Crime of the Week."
The restaurants were entered between 11 p.m. Feb. 15 and 5 a.m. Feb. 16. The thieves forced open safes and took money. In some break-ins the surveillance tapes were damaged, officers said.
Anyone with information on these break-ins or any other crime in Wayne County was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A Yamaha keyboard and a video game were stolen between Thursday and Sunday after a window was smashed at a home in the 1900 block of Peachtree Street, police said. They keyboard, owned by Revelation Mission Free Will Baptist Church of 105 Bright St., was valued at $500. The game, owned by the resident, Brevard Uttmore, was valued at $100.
*Two speakers, an amplifier, a compact disc player and a purse with personal papers were stolen Friday after a car window and a trunk lock were damaged in the Logan's restaurant parking lot at 1011 Sunburst Drive, police said. The owner, Sara Dawn Davis of Goldsboro, estimated her property's value at $437 and damage at $200.
*A DVD player was stolen Friday after a car was damaged extensively on Second Street, police said. The owner and resident, Dexter Ellis Jr., put a $375 value on the player and set damage at $2,000.
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A disabled, white 1996 Toyota 4-Runner was stolen Saturday from the 2000 block of New Hope Road, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Garland Baker Jr. of Goldsboro, said the vehicle was worth $14,500 and had a flat tire.
*Damage was estimated Friday at about $3,050 to a rental mobile home in the 100 block of South Running Deer Circle, deputies said. Vandals had stopped up the sinks, turned on the water and damaged carpet.
Drug charges
Two men were arrested Sunday night by Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with a felony drug offense on Sleepy Creek Road near Dudley.
*Christopher Burnice Lane, 20, of Grantham School Road was charged with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,999 secured bond.
*Larry Keith Lane, 29, of Kevin Lane was charged with possession of cocaine and driving while his license was revoked. He also was jailed in lieu of a $4,999 secured bond.
Missing
A 17-year-old girl was reported missing Friday to Goldsboro police. Jennifer L. Oates of 501 Dixie Trail was described as being black, 5-feet and 195 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.
Ms. Oates was seen last at 1 a.m. Friday. No clothing description was available. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call police at 736-4933.
