Teacher dies
LA GRANGE -- A sixth-grade teacher at Frink Middle School was killed Sunday in a traffic collision on U.S. 117 in southern Wilson County.
Shonté Nicole Edmundson, 24, of LaGrange, was making a left turn onto Church Loop Road near Black Creek, and her car was struck broadside by an oncoming tractor-trailer, a Highway Patrol official said.
First Sgt. J.G. Duckworth said the collision knocked Ms. Edmundson's car off the road into a ditch, and the big rig overturned on top of the car.
The trucker, William Earl Lee, 56, of Faison, was not injured. He was hauling poultry products. No charges were filed.
Both lanes of U.S. 117 were closed for about two hours while the wreck was investigated and the vehicles were removed. Traffic was detoured on side roads.
Man wanted
A 24-year-old man is wanted by Goldsboro police and U.S. marshals for a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a law-enforcement officer.
Daimon Rashaun Teachey was accused of firing at a Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad officer while the officer was executing a search warrant. Police say Teachey is armed and dangerous and should be approached with caution.
Teachey was described as black, 6-feet tall and 265 pounds with black hair, brown eyes, a medium complexion and a scar on his right cheek. He may be living on Virginia Street and has relatives on Crawford and Carolina streets.
Anyone with information on Teachey's location was asked to call police at 736-4933 or Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $500 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Police car struck
A Goldsboro police car was rear-ended Tuesday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Langston Drive, according to a police report.
Officer W. Thomas Bailey, 25, had stopped in the northbound lane for traffic. Michelle Cannon Hill, 32, of Claybrook Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damage was set at $300 to the 2002 police car and $1,000 to Ms. Hill's car.
Driver injured
Damages were estimated at $28,500 and a driver was injured in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 117 near Five Points Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joyce Diane Thornton, 47, of Bennett Farm Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other driver was identified as Elnora W. Hamilton, 54, of Dogwood Lane, Mount Olive.
*A car ran off the left side of Antioch Road in a curve near Bartlett Road at about 9:30 p.m. Monday; it struck a ditch and stopped in a field, the Highway Patrol said. The driver fled. Troopers said the car was registered to Glenda Sue Hyde of Nashville. Damage to the car was set at $5,000.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished at 6:20 p.m. Monday on Old Mount Olive Road near Southern Wayne Road, the Highway Patrol said. Peter Gordon Dublin, 25, of Thrasher Circle, said he swerved to miss a deer in the road and the car ran off the right side and overturned. The SUV was valued at $6,500. No charges were filed.
*A driver was injured and both vehicles were demolished at 5:45 p.m. Friday at N.C. 581 and Pikeville-Princeton Road, the Highway Patrol said. Edna R. Wells, 81, of Pikes Cemetery Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with a yield violation. The other driver was Sharon Daw Martin, 38, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 at 1:40 a.m. Thursday at N.C. 111 and Bill Lane Boulevard, the Highway Patrol said. Shatara Olivia Drummond, 16, of Skitt Drive, was charged with a yield violation. The other driver was Dennis Mark Lilly, 49, of Guilford Street.
Drug charges
Two people were charged Tuesday by Goldsboro police with felony drug violations:
*Quanta Keniel Garner, 22, of Jenny Lane, Dudley, was charged with possession with intent to sell marijuana. He also was charged with no operator's license and failure to burn headlamps. His bond was $3,700.
*Teresa Echo Rodrigo, 40, of East Walnut Street was charged with possession of cocaine. She was jailed in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
Larceny
A 41-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police on two felony charges filed by Greenville police.
Darrell Delon Cooke, who did not disclose a home address, was charged with breaking and entering and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About 200 football cards, video-game equipment and a DVD player were stolen after a door was pried open at an apartment in the 100 block of North Main Street in Eureka, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Donald Andrew Thompson, put a $3,455 value on his property.
*Clothing, two radios, video-game equipment, three phones, two lamps, 17 music cards and $5 were stolen from an apartment in the 300 block of East Spruce Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Greg Carmon, put a $1,332 value on his property.
*A pig cooker with two burners, wood racks and two 25-pound gas cylinders was stolen from a shelter in the 600 block of N.C. 581 North, deputies said. The resident, Gerald V. Mitchell, said the cooker was worth $1,200.
