Melissa Knight

Melissa L. Knight graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base. She also completed technical school training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas and has been assigned to Health Services Management, 48th Medical Operations SQ, RAF Lakenheath in Europe.

A graduate of Wayne Country Day School, she is the daughter of Hui Son and Mike Moore of Goldsboro and Robby Knight of Burlington.

John Morley

Marine Corps Pfc. John L. Morley, a 2003 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School, recently completed the Basic Assault Amphibian Vehicle Crewman's Course.

During the course with Assault Amphibian School Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif, students prepare for assignment to assault amphibian units where landing crafts are used to transport troops and supplies from ship to beachhead for subsequent operations ashore.

Course studies also include vehicle capabilities and operating characteristics, land and water driving exercises and operator-level maintenance procedures.

Kenneth Tyndall

Navy Fireman Apprentice Kenneth C. Tyndall, son of Diane and Brian Tyndall of Pikeville, recently graduated from the Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn.

During the six-week course, Tyndall was taught the basic theory, construction, and operation of nuclear-powered submarines, as well as shipboard organization, damage control, and submarine safety and escape procedures.

Tyndall participated in hands-on training with reality simulators, practicing firefighting and flood control on board a submarine. Tyndall also learned about a submarine's basic hydraulic, water and air systems, and practiced escaping from a simulated sinking submarine.

Tyndall is a 2003 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School of Pikeville. He joined the Navy in August.

Ketia Pickett

Navy Seaman Apprentice Ketia E. Pickett, daughter of Wanda J. and Franklin E. Pickett of Dudley, recently reported for duty with U.S. Navy Support Activity, La Maddalena, Italy.

She joined the Navy in June, 2003.
