FSU lunch

The Fayetteville University Chancellor's Luncheon, sponsored by the Gold-Wayne Chapter of FSU Alumni, will be held Saturday at Lane Tree Golf Club.
Dr. T.J. Bryan, FSU chancellor, will speak. Dr. Bryan is the first woman elected by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors to lead the 136-year-old college, and the first black woman picked to lead a University of North Carolina institution. She started the job on July 1.
She has a doctorate in English literature from the University of Maryland. In 1982, she joined the English faculty at Baltimore's Coppin State College, where she planned and implemented an honors program. She later served as department chairman, dean of the honors division and dean of arts and sciences.
In 1998, she was selected as associate vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University System of Maryland. She is the primary author of "Miles to Go: Maryland" and "The Road Taken," two works that led to legislation that provided guaranteed financial assistance to low-income students.
She later served as vice chancellor for academic and student affairs for the Pennsylvania State Systems of Higher Education. In addition, she has been published and made presentations on early 20th century black women poets.
A native of Maryland, Dr. Bryan is married to Dr. David George Preston. They have one son, Bryan David Preston.
The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. All alumni are asked to help support this program.
