Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A total of $2,494 worth of building supplies was stolen between Jan. 13 and Monday from a yard in the 2100 block of U.S. 70 West, sheriff's deputies said. The property, owned by Phoenix Construction Associates of Goldsboro, included an aluminum walk board, 20 concrete forms and 32 sheets of plywood.
*A 9-millimeter handgun was stolen Monday after a door was damaged at an apartment in the 1100 block of East Elm Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Manuel L. Gomez, put a $189 value on the handgun and set damage at $120.
Dryer fire
A few towels in a dryer overheated Monday, then caught on fire and caused minor damage at Chase Enterprise Laundry at 201 Stevens Mill Road, according to a Goldsboro Fire Department report.
Assistant Fire Chief Ray Boyette said a sprinkler inside the dryer put out the fire. Damage was estimated at $200.
Fifteen firefighters answered the 8:29 a.m. alarm with three engines, a ladder and a command car. They controlled the fire within minutes and remained at the laundry for almost an hour to investigate the cause and finish salvage work.
The building was valued at $200,000 and contents at $300,000, Boyette said.
Sex charge
A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday by Wayne County sheriff's officers and charged with a first-degree statutory sexual offense.
Daryl Linwood Locklear of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond. Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said Locklear was arrested after she investigated a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a 14-year-old girl. Detective Sgt. Tony Morris assisted in the case.
Drug charge
A 30-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad, charged with a felony drug offense and placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $400,000 secured bond.
David Alex Walker of Ginn Lane was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine and manufacture of methamphetamine.
Two hurt in wreck
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:22 a.m. Thursday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said.
Dalila Hernandez, 21, of Cabin Creek Drive, Seven Springs, and her passenger, Guvarrete Morales, 23, of Like Circle, Seven Springs, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Hernandez was charged with a yield violation after her southbound car collided with a westbound tractor-trailer driven by Charlie Monroe Dunham, 52, of Florence, S.C.
Car break-in
A vehicle break-in has been cleared with the arrest of a 21-year-old Goldsboro man, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
Steve Williams of Autumn Winds Place was charged with breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Williams was accused of breaking into a vehicle Jan. 22 at Rosewood and stealing property, Detective Sgt. Tony Morris said. All but one item has been returned to the owner. Sgt. Jeff Williams and Deputy Jim Peterson assisted in the case.
Missing
A 16-year-old student at Spring Creek High School has been reported missing to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Barbara Lee Motter of 189 Colonial Drive was described as black, 5-feet-11 and 240 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. When she was seen last at 8 a.m. Friday, she was wearing a gray pullover shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. She may be going to New Jersey. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
