7 people injured
in county collisions
Seven people were injured and damages were estimated at $55,400 in 10 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A southbound driver was injured in a two-car collision at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Antioch Road near Big Daddy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. Charlotte C. Corbett, 47, of Airport Road, Pikeville, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Doris E. Jones, 67, of Antioch Road, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were put at $4,000.
*A driver was injured in a hit-and-run collision at 8:40 p.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial Drive and a ramp to Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, Goldsboro police said. Sybil Lenise Lowery, 43, of O'Berry Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was starting to make a left turn to the bypass and her sport utility vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup, police said. The other driver fled. Damage to Ms. Lowery's SUV was set at $500.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $5,800 in a two-vehicle crash at 10:55 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 13 near U.S. 117, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, William Earl Pearsall Jr., 17, and his passenger, Jeffrey Faison, 23, both of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, and the other motorist, Timothy Richard Bardecker, 34, of Autumn Winds Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Bardecker was charged with a yield violation.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car crash at 9:55 a.m. Thursday at Tommy's Road and an entrance to Tommy's Road Elementary School, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Elnora L. Townsend, 70, of Piedmont Place, was charged with a yield violation. The other driver was identified as Paul Max Caballero, 22, of Plantation Road.
*A passenger was injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a collision of two vans at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 117 and Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. Lisa N. Wright, 42, of Club Knolls Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Wright's driver, Faith Marie Wright, 15, of Club Knolls Road, Dudley, was charged with a yield violation. The other motorist, Stephanie Wilcox, 32, of North Center Street, was driving a Convalescent Transport van.
*Damages were set at $9,000 in a one-vehicle wreck at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday on ice-covered N.C. 111 near Gertrude Grady Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Lisa Jo Buchtmann, 51, of Leafwood Drive, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after her SUV ran off the left side and struck a house and a power pole.
*Damages were put at $6,000 in a one-car crash at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday on ice-covered U.S. 70 near Piney Grove Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. No charges were filed against the driver, Timothy Lamont Murray, 30, of McLain Street, after his car ran off the left side and overturned in the median.
*Both drivers fled after a collision at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at U.S. 117 Alternate South and Sleepy Creek Road, the Highway Patrol said. The registered owners of the vehicles were identified by troopers as Velasquez Perez Faustino of Mesa, Ariz., and La Palmita Mexican Enterprises of Dudley. Damages were fixed at $5,300.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 12:50 p.m. Jan. 26 on Parkstown Road near Mark Edwards Road, the Highway Patrol said. Richard Leonard Holloway, 32, of North Carolina Street was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car skidded on ice and struck a bridge guardrail. Damage was set at $4,500.
*A car was demolished after a crash at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25 on U.S. 13 near Paul Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Madeline Rivera Alvarez, 24, of Scott Hills Drive, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after her car hydroplaned on snow, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $6,800.
Man assaulted
A 34-year-old man from Goldsboro was cut several times Sunday night by at least two assailants at a boarding house in the 1300 block of North George Street, a Goldsboro police report said.
Santonio Maurice Gregory of North John Street told police that he was cut on his eye lid, face and head at about 11 p.m. in the kitchen. Gregory fled to another home and called for help. He was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. He could not describe his assailants.
Running car stolen
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A man warmed up his car before dawn today, then returned inside his home and came out a few minutes later to find that his car had been stolen, police said. Jesse Lee Travis of Peachtree Street said the gray, four-door Dodge Neon was worth $16,000.
*A blue 2003 Tomas scooter was stolen Sunday from a church parking lot in the 3000 block of Summit Road, police said. The owner, Ricky Leon Hawkins of Harvey Field Road, LaGrange, put a $1,200 value on the scooter.
*An estimated $1,320 worth of clothing and entertainment equipment was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from a mobile home in the 1900 block of North William Street, police said. One resident, Danielle Foster, reported the theft of clothing, a television, a combination radio, tape and compact disc player and video-game equipment with a total value of $820. A second resident, Deon McLeon, said he lost clothing and video-game equipment, valued at $500.
$209,000 bond
A 23-year-old man was apprehended Sunday by Goldsboro police on two outstanding arrest orders for failing to appear in court to answer felony drug and traffic violations.
Antwon Demetrius Peacock of Turtle Lane, Dudley, was charged Oct. 29 with trafficking in cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He also had been charged with four counts of driving while his license was revoked and one count each of failure to heed blue lights or siren, no liability insurance, speeding and failure to stop.
Peacock, who was arrested at Berkeley Mall, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $209,000 secured bond.
Car fire
A 19-year-old car was destroyed Saturday in a fire, now under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found a man walking away from the car on Dobbersville Road, and the man said he was having car trouble. Moments later, a Jordans Chapel volunteer firefighters saw the car on fire and other firefighters then came and put out the fire, deputies said. The car was stored at a body shop.
The 1985 Chevy Cavalier, valued at $500, was registered to Teresa G. Ingram of King Road.
Missing
A 35-year-old man has been reported missing to Goldsboro police. Scott Jeriel Hall, 35, of 221 Mull Smith Lane was described as white, 5-feet-9 and 175 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
Hall was seen last at 11 a.m. Saturday. No clothing description was available. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 739-4933.
