Four people robbed
Three delivery people from Raleigh and a man from Dudley were robbed over the weekend, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office reports.
The three people, delivering spices Saturday to Mexican stores in the county, said they were robbed of $2,500 and other property at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Spring Bank Road, deputies said.
Mayra Leticia Ortiz, 24, reported that two masked Hispanic man stopped in front of them on Spring Bank Road, then approached their car and frisked them for money. The suspects did not display weapons, deputies said.
The robbers took the company's money and checks from the glove box and two cell phones and a wallet from the victims, deputies said. The phones and wallet were valued at $520.
The robbers could not be described further. They fled south on Spring Bank Road.
James Lee Kennedy, 21, of Dudley was robbed Sunday night at gunpoint of $20 and other property. He told deputies that he had gone to a home in the 200 block of Everittsville Road to repay a loan.
When Kennedy left, a man with a stick grabbed him around the neck and pulled him down, deputies said, while a second man displayed a firearm. Then both men kicked him and took his pager, a knife, cigarettes and a lighter, deputies said. The robbers then fled into nearby woods. Neither suspect could be described.
Kennedy put a $60 value on his property, in addition to the cash.
Officer has wreck
A Goldsboro police officer was cited Sunday with a safe-movement violation after a collision on U.S. 70 West near Nevel Street, according to reports.
Sgt. Dorothy H. Ardes, 47, was trying to make a U-turn in the westbound lane in her patrol car, and a following sport utility vehicle tried to swerve to the left and avoid her car, but the two collided the report said.
Neither Sgt. Ardes nor the other driver, Robert Earl Nice Jr., 37, of Fetchet Street, nor his two passengers were injured. Damage was estimated at $2,000 to the 1999 police car and $2,000 to Nice's SUV.
Collisions
State Highway Patrol troopers and Goldsboro police investigated numerous, weekend traffic collisions caused by icy roads. No fatalities were reported.
Many collision reports have not been completed, but some involved property damage and minor injuries.
In a two-vehicle collision before the storm, a driver from Goldsboro was injured at 2:18 p.m. Friday on West Ash Street near Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway South, police said.
Lakisha Shantal Young, 21, of Hollowell Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other motorist, James Edwin Bedford, 60, of O'Berry Center Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were estimated at about $200.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A black leather purse with personal papers and 80 compact discs were stolen between Thursday and Friday after a car window was smashed in the 700 block of North Spence Avenue, police said. The resident and car owner, Patricia A. Kee, estimated the property's value at $782 and damage at $150.
*A wallet with personal papers was stolen Friday after a truck window was shattered in the 600 block of North Park Drive, police said. The owner, Kenneth Wayne Sheldon of Cape Carteret, said the wallet was worth $25.
*Soft drinks and candy were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a door was damaged at Goldsboro Middle School at 801 N. Lionel St., police said. The drinks and snacks were worth about $150. Damage was set at $500. Police said the thieves entered through an open window and pried open a door to a storage room.
