City street closing

Opinions were decidedly mixed about the proposed closing of a street near Salem Church Road during Monday night's City Council meeting.
Bryan Alley and Angila Sutton, adjoining property owners, have petitioned the city of Goldsboro to close Sunset Lane.
The road runs from the west side of Granville Drive in Spring Garden Subdivision.
Franklin Williams, a resident in the subdivision, said during the public hearing that he didn't want the road to close, citing safety reasons.
"There's no way out if there was an emergency," he said. "If something happened at Granville and Fedelon (Trail), those living in the back couldn't get out."
Williams also said it was unsafe, especially for older people, to get out on Fedelon Trail because it was difficult to see.
But Ms. Sutton said that keeping the road open was a safety concern.
"It's a path through the woods and people are speeding through there," she said.
She requested that if the street was not closed, that it be temporarily barricaded until access is available all the way through to the highway.
Ms. Sutton said there was another exit out of the subdivision, near William Street, if people had to get out.
Some members in the audience groaned at that comment.
Alley said that it was not a road, but was a "cart path" full of potholes.
