Condron remembered
The Wayne County commissioners unanimously agreed Tuesday to memorialize Bill Condron at the Borden Building, soon to be the home of mental health services.
A plaque with his name and picture will be hung in the Bill Condron Room on the sixth floor of the downtown building.
Commissioner Atlas Price called it "a small token of appreciation for all the great work Bill did for the county."
Eastpointe Director Jack St. Clair thanked the commissioners for the tribute to his friend and colleague. "I know it will mean a lot to our staff," he said.
Condron, who died last month after a prolonged battle with cancer, worked for the Wayne County Mental Health Center for 30 years, including as director from 1996 until last June. He helped oversee the center's merger into what is now Eastpointe, which includes Duplin, Lenoir and Sampson counties.
Eastpointe's Wayne County offices will soon move into the Borden Building.
Story reading
The best entries to the Wayne County Historical Association's story contest, which are received by Sunday, will be read at the reception to welcome the old "Lady in the Park" statue to its new home.
The stories should be true accounts set between 1730 and 1975, be up to five pages typed, double spaced, in no smaller than 11-point font size or written in black ink on 8.5-by-11-inch paper.
Participants should send their entries by March 15 to: Wayne County Museum, 116 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530, Attention: Story Entry.
Entertainment at the reception will include singer Madeline Edwards and a four-hand musical recital performed by Emily Weil and her mother, Mildred Newman. It will be at the museum on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Bloodmobile
The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a Bloodmobile on Thursday from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. Donors will receive a coupon for a free car wash.
