Hood announces for commissioners

Mark Hood has announced his intention to run for the District 4 county commissioner seat, currently held by Efton Sager.
Sager, a Republican, has not yet said whether he will run for re-election.
Hood, a Democrat and native of Grantham, retired three years ago after working at CP&L for 34 years.
"Years ago, while I was still working, I decided that I wanted to serve," Hood said. "Now that I'm retired, I have that opportunity."
He has been involved in a number of civic activities over the years including the Goldsboro Exchange Club, Boy Scouts, Grantham School PTA, School Advisory Committee, Wayne County United Way Committee, National Rifle Association, Masons. He has served as president of the Wayne County Scottish Rite Club and is a deacon of Falling Creek Baptist Church.
Hood is seeking a political office for the first time in his life.
He and his wife, Joyce, have a grown daughter and son and three grandchildren. His daughter and her family live in Grantham; his son and his family live in Wilmington.
He promises to serve the people of his district and Wayne County with their best interests in mind.
He also says he will make every effort to see that the county gets the most benefit possible for every tax dollar spent. He said he would look for alternatives to hold down property taxes.
His first priority, though, is to do everything within his power to see that all the children of Wayne County have access to a good education, at a location that will be convenient to them and their parents.
Hood says he believes in community schools.
