Two farmers choosen for seminar

Wayne County farmers, Daryl Anderson and Kelvin Norris, have been selected for participation in the 2004 Master Farm Management Seminar at N.C. State University. They are among a select group of only 36 chosen to attend.
The Master Farm Management Seminar, conducted by the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at N.C. State, targets young farmers from across the state. The program is designed to enhance the farm financial management skills of participants through individual and group participation in lectures, problem-solving, and strategic planning.
Sponsored by the Farm Credit Associations of North Carolina, the seminar has been very popular in the past. The week-long course in late January helps young farmers to better understand financial statements, business records analysis, marketing techniques, the farm credit system, plus tax and labor issues.
Anderson, from the LaGrange area, manages over 300 acres of row crops and operates a 2,900-head hog facility. Norris, who lives near Princeton, farms with his father-in-law.
Together they manage 900 acres of cropland, a 100,000-bird turkey flock, 12,000 head of swine, and forty beef cows.
