Happy to hear from you: Let us know what's on your mind, even if it's about us

It's not all dollars and cents.

We generally reserve this space for addressing current events, political discourse, maybe spotlighting a do-gooder in the community or, sometimes, taking to task an official or a board who missed the mark in some fashion or other.

And, we realize -- boy do we realize -- the opinions expressed here are not universally shared, nor could they ever be. Even those who agree most often with us find failings or shortcomings on a given topic or another. Facts of life.

But we never lose sight of the fact, no matter how it may appear, that we are people and so are those we report on. There are very often families involved, and as much as we strive to be accurate and fair -- go ahead, we'll wait for the roasts -- we sometimes make mistakes or the police reports, the board meeting minutes, the budgets or court records, etc., just might overlook a key point.

Call us on it. Write in. Tweet. Chat us on Facebook. Send a letter to the editor.

We're here for it -- all of it. Without discourse we might not know there has been an error, or as with most cases, simply a differing opinion that might have more weight than given at first glance.

We know that not everyone charged or accused is guilty. Not everyone present is party to an incident. Not everyone who lives in a household is responsible for what one person who resides there might or might not have done. And no politician is responsible for every other member of, nor action taken by, his or her party.

Sure, we are in business to make a profit, but we are in journalism to make a difference. We let you know what is going on in your neighborhood. In your city. In your county. And where we can, we take state and local stories and parse them down to give you the local impact, likely or direct, to be expected by a given action or event.

You won't always like reading it. We don't always like covering it. But that's as honest a take as you're going to get from a newsroom, big or small.

We're here to inform, to cover the news, the community events, the politics and crime and, yes, sometimes the oddball or the absurd. Did we mention politics and crime?

You like your party or candidate, vote for them. You hate the other guy? Don't vote for 'em. You don't like reading about crime around town? Well, the people who live near the incidents have a right to know.

And, if you think we are ignoring something or someone, let us know. Odds are, we didn't get the press release, the phone call or the heads up.

And make no mistake, this is neither an apology nor us patting our own backs. But it is a plea.

We -- ahem, humbly -- are this community's best, most accurate, most consistent, and most reliable source for news and information. But we're always seeking to get better. Help us do so.
