Less is better: Turning over voters' personal info to federal panel isn't a good idea

The federal commission on election integrity is having trouble getting many states to come across with the voter information it is seeking.

President Donald Trump came up with the idea for the commission as a way to determine whether there is widespread voter fraud in the United States. Some people believe there is. Some don't. There is not much evidence to show that there is.

Voting is conducted by the individual states, and the North Carolina Board of Elections has indicated that it will not release all of its voter information to the commission.

Most people would be surprised at how much information about them is public record if they are registered to vote. We agree with those who do not want their information given over to the federal government. As far as we are concerned, the less information the federal government has about us the better.
