Hope for VA: Legislation expected to make Veterans Affairs more reliable

Congress has approved legislation that will make firing employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs easier, a first step in improving the agency that is tasked with taking care of the millions of Americans who have served this country in the armed forces.

It pleases us greatly that both Democrats and Republicans see the need for the measure. President Trump is expected to sign it into law this week.

Congress has vowed to do even more for veterans. The chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee said this week that lawmakers will soon begin work on legislation that would give veterans expanded access to doctors outside the VA.

Veterans who have had trouble dealing with the department, who have suffered through delay after delay in getting treatment, welcomed the bill's passage. We hope it leads to even more progress in fixing the VA's longstanding problems..
